My 73 302 has a mechanical, I assume stock fuel pump and I am getting 10-12 psi at the Edelbrock 1406. Before I add a regulator, was wondering should I install an electric pump. What pros/cons? Pressure regulator suggestions? Mike
A small block Ford mechanical pump should not exceed 7 psi. at maximum. Benefits of a mechanical, cost, simplicity, availability, installation\replacement. Benefits of an electrical, easy start at all engine temperatures, less drag & junk hanging off front of engine (especially if power steering), EFI ready, consistent pressure at all rpm's, possible delivery of cooler fuel.
Well that is the problem, my mechanical pump is delivering 10-12 psi at carb. I have used two gauges to check in case of a bad gauge. I have read reviews of most stock pumps and they are rated less than 6psi, but lots of users say they got more. Just confused...., this car will be a low HP restomod, so just trying to be efficient and frugal (cheap). Thanks
There's no way your engine will run with an Edelbrock carb at 10-12 psi. It would flood out. Edelbrock carbs don't like more than 5psi. Pressure regulators are better suited for electric fuel pumps...
