Why did the maverick die?

    For a moment can you imagine the names Maverick and Comet not dying but still being used on the Zepher and the Fairmount. I think the image is kinda scary and makes me sorta glad that the names died with the original body styles. I don't think i would want see a square body, square head lighted set of cars with the names Maverick and Comet on them.

    Just don't look at the SUV Mavericks from AUS. or the U.K.
    Boxy is the word I'm thinking.

    The Maverick and Comet were originally meant to be replaced in 1975 by the Granada and Monarch. However, Ford decided to keep selling both sets of cars until the 1978 model year introduction of the Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr, which were built on an all-new "Fox" body platform. Ford used that platform as a basis for many Ford & Mercury designs through the 80's.

    Speaking of keeping a body style intact for years, the Mustang stayed the same from '79-'93, much longer than the Maverick/Comet.

    Yeah that is one sad version of the Maverick, the truck is o.k. but please don't call it a Maverick.:yup:
