going to move this...PCV valve subject ...to it's own thread...hope to see you there... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=889841#post889841
I wouldn't be scared to install another. But if you dont, a road draft tube is also an option. PCV valve always seemed to be the best option due to the fact that your sucking the vapors out of the engine. A lot of that vapor is stuff that will dirty your oil. If you dont believe it, pull a pcv valve apart that is off a newer engine that still has clean oil in it. They are nasty.
So I checked out the PCV and looks to be intact, nothing from my Carb, and I took apart a spare lifter I had laying around and nothing similar inside it.....
Well I guess the mystery continues then, was easy enough to check to see if it was a pcv valve component though. Hopefully you will figure it out, may have just been something that fell in somehow in one of your tear downs and not even related to your engine
yea I kinda agree with you on that... I'm gonna get a magnet and place it on the outside of the oil pan just in case... beyond that just wait and see what happens...
no...but the people in my neighborhood aren't the type to mess with my car...and if they were they wouldn't have a clue how to get under their own hood, much less mine... but I did give that concept a thought.... to put a checkball in there would be stupid, it's too round, less likely to get stuck somewhere vital or get between bearing surfaces.... to put a checkball AND a spring in there is just weird....
maybe it was parts from the ball point pen you were missing after that one time you were working on your motor.
