What would you pay for a leaking carb.

    Its the needle and seat or the float level is to high ,there shouldnt be gas that high in the bowl ,like the other guy said ....jay

    If instead of just swapping parts you'd learn to tune it you might be way ahead. These things just dont "work" ya got to learn some about them and learn to tune it some anyway. Keep taking them apart and mismatching parts and you wont get anywhere

    Keep in mind the extensive mods that are needed to swap base plates between most holley's.they may bolt on but the passages change quite frequently.

    do you know anything about holley carbs? i bought one for my 76 mav and put it on and it leaks from the top too. probably i put it on wrong. i dont know where all the hoses go and i'm missing a hose on the egr valve.

    A Holley leaking from the top has about got to be too high a fuel level or a stuck needle. This Edelbrock Holley debate goes on in just about every car/truck site on the web. lol It will never be settled.
    I like Holleys but have had a couple Edelbrocks. I hate the way the Edelbrocks cost so much for a rebuild kit or a calibration kit. More than I Holley in my mind. An Edelbrock is usually more user friendly out of the box to people that don't like tinkering with things but I think a Holley has more potential for HP and MPG when tuned properly. They just take more knowledge to tune correctly.

    thanks mr clint, since i am a female and new the the maverick family, my knowledge on cars is growing. i'm fixing up mine my self. if you dont mind, how do i fix a stuck needle or a high fuel level.

    Often, you can tap the carb gently with the handle of a screwdriver, and a stuck needle or stuck float will free up. It may be a temporary fix, but will get you an idea of what is wrong.

    To adjust the float (what you call "high fuel level") you need to take the big screw out of the side of the carb on the float bowl, or the bulbous part on the front. There may be one on the back also, if it is a double pumper. do one at a time, starting with the front.

    Have lots of rags around and do this on a cool engine. Fuel will most likely spill out onto the intake.

    You know what, I can scan the page out of the book and email it to you, with diagrams and detailed instructions. That would probably work out best for you. It isn't hard, but makes more sense if you see it and get to read it from the holley book.

    i tried taking the side screw out a while back, i took it out and said, oh crap!!! scrambling to put it back in lol.

    That mean the float is set to high.
