Mine is multi-colored, and comes apart at times (currently both front fenders are off prepping for a single color of epoxy primer). BUT, I can have it back together in under an hour, and then it is reliable enough for daily driving, but has the A/C removed, so I only drive it in the afternoons during the summer, just cruising around. I have had it to the track 5-6 times. I drive it on the street like I do at the track, if the road is right and there is nobody around. I try to keep it dry, since there are some areas that the metal is only mildly protected, like with rattle can primer, that could easily rust if given the opportunity.
just took mine off the jackstands last night after about 10 months of heavy swapping and what not, set it down, now the front sits higher than it did with the 250, but it's rolling now
MY Comet is under construction to be a daily driver/road course race car. 90% of the mechanical is done. 0% of the body work. I make 'em run not look good. actually, I'm terrible at body work.
Right now my car is a daily driver. The overall condition is good, no rust, but needs alot of lovin'. My goal is to build a street/strip car that I enjoy without the worries. It will be primered and fast, the way I like 'em. Horsepower first .
My one 77' Maverick used to be a daily driver until we restored it. It now is a show-cruise-fun in the sun car. The other 77' is currently under construction, but it will be an everyday daily driver.
definatly under construction, but driven every day to school at least, right now the new hood and trunk are in gray primer and the body is painted with genaric $0.95 cans of black spray paint(thank you wal-mart). for a 30 year old north east car it is in phenominal condition with the only rust in the bottom of the front fenders. floors and rear quarters are 100% rust free. the hood had the usuall problems but as you can see I solved them. I think I'll be going the Hi-po I6 way with mine.
I am on my second daily driver Maverick ('72 2 door). First was a '74 Grabber, I put exactly 9,978 miles on the Grabber in 7 months for a total of 201,000 miles on the car. It got crunched by a Lincoln Navigator. The '72 is originally from Los Angeles, but spent some time in the 80's in Philadelphia and has more rust then first meets the eye. It has been rear ended hard at some point in it's life, bad enough to buckle the rear frame rails above the rearend. I'm guessing that was sometime around 1976, since all the replacement parts I have found on the rear of the car have a 1976 part number. The guy I got it from was using it as a parts car, mainly because it had some issues with the title. Dosen't matter, 'cuz in GA we don't need titles for cars of this age. This car will likely never be restored, but it's possible. My brother and I drive it daily. We have been putting close to 1,200 miles a week on it for the past 3 weeks. I have put 13,850 miles on it since January. The body of the car itself has around 151,000 miles on it. The engine has 213,850. My next daily driver will be my '69.5. This car has been in GA since new, and has very little rust. I guess I'll be going somewhat "rat rod" with it, since I really don't have the money to get the paint and everything done right. I already have pretty much every detail of what I want to do to this car worked out in my head. It will probably take me about a year of working on it while driveing it daily (most of the time) to get it how I want it. I will start driving this car daily sometime in the next month and don't plan to stop driving it anytime soon. The body of the '69.5 has around 175,000 on it. Originally had a 200/C4 but the engine and transmission were gone when I bought it. My cars are drivers. Cars were meant to be driven, and I drive the wheels off mine and will continue to do so. If I ever build a show car, it will be my '74 Grabber. I will be getting that car fixed and I doubt it will ever see daily driver use again.
My Comet is a rough, but dependable driver. For the last 3-4 years it's been little more than a yard ornament.I'm currently getting it ready for occational use now(fresh belts, plugs, oil change, etc)so I can drive it to work & back some.Ultimately,I would like it to be very similar to Derek5.0's Comet as far as build style(minus the cage, and white 'stead of blue)but that'll be a while.
