what about swapping to an aluminum drive shaft? how much would that take off? and what about using a full pin on hood like the old dodge muscle cars and ditching the hood hinges im sure they weigh sumthin but not sure if it would be enough to make a difference in weight.

Not to nit pick but i have 6 friends with stock/superstock race cars and weight is everything.Disc brakes weigh more than drums unless they are ultra light race brakes, and most bench seats are lighter than a pair of factory buckets. These guys are nuts everything goes on a scale. One guy has a 66 fairlane 390 car and without ballast it weighs in around 3000 lbs.

Surprises me that disk brakes weigh more than drums. The (11"?) drums that came off seemed really heavy -- a LOT heavier than the '77 rotors. Calipers are heavier than cyl but still thought the whole disk setup would weigh less.

The '88 Camaro buckets definitely weigh less than the bench seat. From memory I'd guess the bench is at least 80#. Buckets are pretty light, maybe 25# each.

Its not nit picking to correct errors. If I got it wrong it needs to be corrected. :tiphat:

One cool thing I noticed was that, since this past March, I've dropped 55 lbs. So the car feels a bit quicker LOL

Better check that seat for lost change! I moved my bench around a few times before hauling it off, my guess would be closer to 40#. I'm sure it's "bulk" makes it seem heavier... I know with the brackets I built, my Pontiac G6 seats are heavier than the stock bench.

I really need to weigh mine, the B.S. wheels are pretty lite and with the aluminum block and heads... :bouncy:

The guy I gave the bench seat to might have picked up some gas money for the trip. :rofl2:

I know I'm getting weaker in my old age and things seem heavier than they used to but I can't believe that seat weighed only 40#. :16suspect Wish I still had it -- I'd weigh it just to convince myself I'm not THAT weak.

    Camaro buckets were definitely lighter.:yup:

Would be nice to have a thread on weight-saving changes with numbers.
