Wow. Didn't know people were paying attention to this.

Got the top end pulled apart and the heads were cracked. I got a shadetree guy to take a look and bottom end looks all right. I'd recieved bad advice from another mechanic who listened to it. Younger guy, he told me the engine was hosed.

I've got new heads going on this week and I've been assured by multiple people that I'm in good shape. Funny, even though it sat for 3 weeks without being turned it still started up as soon as I turned the key. I drove it across the street and she smoked like crazy but she ran okay.

As a side story: couple weeks ago I was looking for vacuum leaks on my Maverick when a neighbor of mine (Ford guy) came out and we had a nice long discussion about straight 6s. He's a big fan of curvy Fords (Mustangs, Torinos, Mavericks) and took a lot of interest in my car. He asked me if the Comet was for sale. I told him it was my girlfriend's car and that discussion ended.

Well, he told me a story about his girlfriend's nova that was parked with expired tags in the apartment parking lot for 3 years and then suddenly it was towed. They put the tow-away sticker on it one Saturday night and towed it Sunday morning. Well, I never did find my vacuum leak and it got dark so we parted ways.

Twenty minutes later someone's banging on my door. It's the Ford guy and he's trying to tell me that "those thieves" are towing my car... I run outside and there's my Comet up on a flatbed. There was no tow away sticker on it half an hour ago and now there is, dated yesterday.

    The complaint? Flat tire.

This was also in my covered, assigned parking, which, according to my lease was a safehaven from the towing company. I threw a bitch-fit and ended up not getting my car towed, but they did dump it at Discount Tire, the maintenance guy telling me that it's not to come back on this lot with a flat tire.

So I went and aired up my tire and drove it back home. I told my girlfriend I was going to sell the car -- seriously this time, and she scolded me for having such a stupid idea. So we're getting it fixed. Hooray for girlfriends. She loves my car more than I do. Really.

By the way, anyone know where to get a good, running AMC Javelin, 1972-1975? Preferably with a 401? It's her dream car, and she's been just perfect for the last 3.5 years -- so I wanna get it for her.

They may still be around, but obviously not in Arizona. I've found some in Colorado but they tend to be rust-buckets.

Color? No friggin' clue. Really wish I knew, it needs a few little touch-ups.

Good luck on the Javelin Hunt. I've had my eyes out for years. Closest i came was a 68 AMX about 5 years ago intown for $4500. I should have jumped on it. They are worth alot more now.

I am also in Phoenix, well Peoria. If you need any more help or advice send me a pm and I'll see what I can do.
