All BS aside, had it been my money and my decision, the car would have been towed. Terry offered to trailer it several times and I offered to tow it up on my grandpa's car dolly. I have been doing this sort of thing with my grandpa for years, and know how much of a risk it is and how bad things can go wrong with a car like that. Either way, we would have ended up spending about 3 times as much money. At the end of the day, it wasn't really my decision to make and the circumstances just sort of demanded we drive it. I have known Bryan for about 8 years, and will do anything in my power to help him out. Terry was rightfully very cautious about the whole thing and made sure to cover his own a$$.
Went and took a some pics. Don't let the pics fool you, the car has alot of rust. Behind the rear wheels, front fenders, and trunk would need extensive rust repair. But, at some point the car has been coated with some sort of undercoating and it has saved the floors and frame. The torque boxes and all that are solid. We have put a new radiator, battery, starter, and hoses on the car. The flex hoses are the only type Advance Auto had without paying twice as much and waiting a couple of days. New tires will be comeing soon, and we will go through the brakes. The hood is one I got in the junkyard a while back and we will be rattle canning it black. The trunk lid, door panels, and lower dash are off my '74 Grabber. I was planning to replace them all before I wrecked the car, but they work just fine for this daily driver. The hubcaps are some I just had laying in my shed. We will find some better ones later. We are also going to change the grille to the older style sport lights. This is what the car currently looks like:
No before pics, just picture it with no hood, no trunk, no hubcaps, and covered in dirt and grime. It looks like a diffrent car now... I am really amazed how good it looks after cleaning it up. When we drove it up here, it looked like it had been sitting in the woods for 20 years or something...
Nah, no restoration will take place on this body. We will swap everything over to the '76 shell I have before doing any real work on it. The transmission is also on it's last legs. For now it's just a putt putt around town car. I am going to slowly start getting the '76 shell ready and sometime around christmas we will drive it up there and swap everything over. Then the real body work will take place and the car will be painted. For now we are just doing all the mechanical work and stuff that can be removed and swapped over later.
