By the way, I originally just got new shaft/bushing kits from Checker (much cheaper than C.J. for those), but as it turned out, my old A-arms were too badly worn (the metal was hogged-out where the bushings go), so I ended up returning the kits and got new A-arm assemblies from C.J. I went with the aftermarket ones because I didn't want to spend double for the O.E.M. type, and because I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) the O.E.M. types are greaseable...

Now, I know you've been steam cleaning that ride getting ready for a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT - and that's a pretty scarey picture - but I think I can One-Up you.

This is how purdy mine was when I first got it:
(and good luck on your rebuild)

They offer a repair kit for this. It is rubber bushings instead of the metal bushings with o-rings. Never used it. Moog makes em......I would just by new a arms but it's a viable option....

You call that dirty... you should see the front suspension on my '73 4 door. Car only had a poorly maintained 316,000 on it. The dirt and grime was litterally over a half inch thick above the ball joints...

...and another thing...just how does the a arm shaft work?

it is right hand threaded on both ends...and i don't see what makes them squeek. mine were the org. from the factory, they had plenty of grease and still squeeked.
all that is there is 2 threaded cups w/grease seals.

I just got all my parts today, minus the spring perches, fairly straight forward....hardest part for me was drilling the old upper ball joints out.

Inside the cups are very course threads and mating threads on the shaft with a film of grease between them. One end is left-handed, the other end right-handed. Once they wear out from metal-to-metal contact no amount of grease will keep them from squeeking.
