Everything you have done to your car is literally perfect as far as I'm concerned. That is going to be one hell of a car when it's finished. That engine needs a super charger though. :evilsmile

I can see where that connector is tied into the rear sub-frame, I see how the front connection helps to locate the rear sub-frame and the welds are all very good looking in the pictures but I don't see the strength in the connection at the front sub-frame. It looks like any bending moment at the rear of the front sub-frame is going to fold the car as if there was nothing there. There isn't much strength from a diagonal hit either. The ones in post 92 byXpsnake are better but if the square tube had been lapped into the sub-frame rails more and welded to the floor it would have made the joints stronger.

I think (not often) that these will make your car too strong and safe. You need to drill some holes and grind away the welds to loosen the transmission mount. LOL:)

All seriousness asside, looks good. Is that a strut front end? 5 Speed? Start a tread on your build. Suspension, frame connectors, trans and whatever you have done. Looks like an interesting build in progress.

    Thank you

I have thought about a supercharger. I'm going to get the stock engine running perfect first. Anyway, I can't afford one now, I'm way over budget and just about out of cash.

    Thanks for your comments

Should I connect the subframe to the floor using tappered spacers in between.
Should it be welded in one place midway OR would it be better to connect to floor in multiple places.

All suggestions on improvement are welcome

    Some of my observations.

Basically, you just need a longer weld at the front of the connector, so the weld isn't what is carrying most of the load. I like the way you've tied the subframe into the rocker panel. That is an excellent way to increase the stiffness in a uni-body chassis.

It's probably fine the way it is. Just keep an eye on those front welds for cracks.

    L50watts,

Perhaps you could box the front of your connectors into the front sub-frame because they only attached to the tube that crosses from side to side. A better wat to have executed the connectors would have been to use a larger tube that would have slid over the subframes. It is diffucult to build a torque box to tie your connectors into the front sub-frames. Welding the tube on top of the existing sub frame is ok but if it was slipped over, welded and a "fish plate" or doubler added on top it would make the connection stable in more directions than just fore and aft.
As far as connecting them to the floor - normally they would be in contact with or penetrate the floor and would be skip welded and doublers welded in place. Because your tubes are off the floor by over an inch you would have to box them in and spread the load on each side of the floor. There is no easy way other than to cut the ones you have made off and bend a larger tube to fit and connect with the existing sub-frames. I don't think that is necessary unless you have a vey large engine, producing mass amounts of torque, or you are going "off road" with it. If you were to box the front connectors it would be more than strong enough for drag racing with any small block.
    Paul

Thanks for the details on the pic. I will follow your advice and add some steel to distribute the load and take some stress away from the small welds up front.

    Thanks again!

PaulS, Thanks for the comments. My engine will probably be around 320 to 340 HP. RWHP will be somewhat less and a modest amount of torque. I am however going to make it a little better and tie the subframes in.

    Thanks again!
