I'm starting to feel Frank's pain. I'm starting to get "When are you gonna finish that '77 Mav?" a lot more than I want to hear.:( I just hope I can nice about it like Frank.

Like a wise man (Frank) once told me...If none of the car is BARE metal...Isn`t it already "painted"?

Not one person wants to show off their craftsmanship to the rest of the board?
This car is not going to be raced.
As I understand it the work shown is a fit-up and may not look anything like the final parts.
Is it the way that I would build connectors? No. I think I explained how I would make them. I think the person who said he would send the guy making those connector out to me wasn't thinking right. I will say this:
You pay his travel both ways.
You pay the photographer to document the steps.
You pay the room and board while he is here.
You get him to agree to it.
I will let him build a set of frame connectors for me!
Do you have money to do that?
It is easy to say that you will pay his air fare - the rest of the bill will be quite a bit higher than a few hundred in travel costs. (motels run $60 a night meals run $10 - $30 a plate in this area)

I do my own work on my cars.
I have been working as a mechanic professionally for 36 years.
Fabrication is something I have done a lot of.
I don't have a degree but I have never had anything that I built fail.
I have seen a lot of stuff that the engineers designed fail.
Regardless of what I think of someone else's work I believe in some rules of engagement:
If you are going to judge the work - let him finish it first.
If it does turn out to be poor workmanship tell him how to improve it.
If there are safety issues address them.
If you are going to berate somebody - do it in private

The first rule is just common sense - you might make an @$$ of yourself
Part of being a professional is teaching others how to be better - even better than you
Safety first - but you don't address those issues by calling names or telling him your 9 year old can do better work - Not even if it is true.
The last rule has to do with legallity. Even an employer can't get away with berating someone publicly. If you aren't paying the bills you have no right to berate him.

Your opinions were invited, that doesn't give you license to speak down to the guy. It does allow for constructive criticism of the work but you have to READ what the guy is talking about first. This is my last post on this subject. Those of you who have been civil don't need to feel that this is written to you. Those of you who have been abusive - you probably won't get the message anyway. That being the case, there is no need to continue the attempt to show you how to better handle discussions like this when they happen in the future.
Keep this in mind though - when you post pictures of your work in progress and you are put down for it - you showed them how to do it to you.
    Paul

    Paul,

I tell you what Paul I will put my money where my mouth is. If it means the "War Machine" gets put on hold, to prove a point. I'm not Rich by any standards. However, I have the money to do this. 5k promised right now.

I am sending a PM to James Comet to get this"professionals" number.

Rules are this...... you leave your car with him alone(no advice). I'll bring the metal, chop saw, and The Welder. I'll cover Hotel and Food. This is Tops a 3 day Ordeal. I will drive out a couple days early so we can get "introduced"

Final stipulation. You have to leave this guys subframe connectors on for 10 years or forfeit your Maverick to a raffle for charity on this Board?

Do you agree to these terms? If so I will start planning this grand adventure now?:rofl2:

    Edit:
Damn It figured this out where it will cost Minimal effort and Money.

James Comet I will give you $ 500.00 for your connectors and mail them to Paul. :29:

Some of us don't photograph every single thing we do just to throw it up onto the sacred internet and brag about it to the rest of the world. And some of us have been doing this type of work long before Al Gore invented the damned internet!!!!! (heavy sarcasm noted in red) :evilsmile
    Big whoop.
Well....you've got guts. You may have sh!t for brains but you've got guts.
Congratulations. Did you fabricate that high horse you're sitting on as well?
Great. I don't buy into all of that but that is your prerogative.
    I doubt it.
I do just that. My kids may very well end up being better than me. We'll see. Others do not get that knowledge for free. I refuse to simply give away my hard earned knowledge because someone with an internet connection thinks they are entitled to that knowledge.
Safety first....that's why I mentioned it in the first place. I've shown those pictures to roughly 30 people that I race with on a regular basis. Some are still laughing and some cringed. You don't like the fact that my kid can do better work? How about I send my 18 year old over to fix it for him? Hell....he will probably find 20 more horsepower in that engine for him as well.
Yes, I do. It is called "freedom of speech" and it is one of the founding concepts of this country. One concept that seems to be taking hold in this country, however, is the right to not be offended. Let me make this perfectly clear: YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED IN THIS COUNTRY. One other thing: Legality. The law cannot keep me from expressing myself. That would be censorship.
I don't feel that I spoke down to the owner of the car. Just the "chassis guy" if that's what you wish to call him. My original post was a blatant warning to the car owner. You didn't like it, Rick didn't like it, and the car owner didn't like it. All of you were offended....but I reiterate that I have the right to speak my mind. Hell...the pictures of that hack job OFFENDED me!
I certainly don't need you to show me how to handle anything, Paul. Your self-righteousness sickens me more than those so-called subframe connectors. I, too, am done with this.
