Mavowar is speaking truth. Listen to him.
Seriously, it takes more than 500 hp to run in the tens. More hp? No. A well set up car to get the 500hp to the ground.

Like he said, if you know it will run in the tens, get your timeslip, and then you will know that for a fact. Until then, its just us wishing. Trust me. I have a 8 second Maverick in my garage. lol I just ain't got the timeslip to go with it yet...

Glad to see you got a good size pipe to go w/ that 408. That baby should scream! Looks good too! Cam? Heads? Shift points? Converter? Details man!

Frankly, not my choice of frame connectors, as the strongest and most efficient ones are thru the floor, 2x3 square or round tubing that uses the unibody floor as a portion of the structure.

Whats the harm in getting that 10 second time slip?

Yeah!!! Go for the 10-second time slip...I have one and it is posted on here somewhere, in fact, I think it was 9.x...in the 1/8th...

Seems like overkill for a street-only car...

I'd like to see a side shot of your car sitting on the ground with those frame connectors, and see what kinda ground clearance your going to have? and is your exhaust going over the rearend? or where is it going to exit?
I never knew that a shorter driveshaft would give you more torque? Hmmmmmm...

If you think about it, the longer a driveshaft is, the more it has length to twist, and any twist is lost torque, so a shorter driveshaft with less twist=more torque...

Oh, never mind...I can't makeup BS like this even if I tried

    It sounded good at first...

Anyway, I think we established that there is no gain or loss of torque earlier in the thread.

Using the laws of physics, though, he might gain a minute amount, due to less rotational mass being forced to spin...kinda like having a slightly smaller tire...

    For you "naysayers."

***Ok, if you go to this site and scroll down about halfway you can read what Steve Westerman said he ran with the same motor I have. Also his name appears two more times just below and his wife Melissa ran 10.66. This is in a 1966 mustang and I know the mustang weighs more than a 71 comet gt (2,333lbs). Plus I had the option to put a Quick Fuel Technology 750 carb on there as opposed to a regular carb. And Arron himself said the car will run in the 10's. I'm not one to brag or make things up.

    http://www.badasscars.com/testimonials.html

Now, it should be noted that I just want to have fun with the car and I never was interested in actual drag racing. If it does not run in the 10's I don't care. And if I perhaps get in the mood in the summer or whenever I may run it at the Las Vegas speedway. I'm 62 years old and I have had plenty fast cars in my life. My very first car was 1965 Comet Caliente with the hp 289. I had cobra kit car with a 427 side oiler. I traded that for a 1970 428 mustang cobra jet that was owned by Barbara Eden, the I dream of Genie Girl. I wish I had not gotten rid of these cars but at the time you do what you gotta do. And just a couple of weeks ago I bought 1964 falcon sprint with a good 289 motor, 9" ford read end, fmx c6 and 22 gallon fuel cell in the trunk. It only needs a complete restoration of body and interior. The body is really straight. So in short, I'm just trying to have some fun and enjoy the cars that's all.

Dude...Now I KNOW you are lyin'...Any REAL man who owned a car that was previously owned by BARBARA EDEN would NEVER sell it off...NEVER!!!

Man, I would keep that car for life, and let my grandkids watch reruns of Genie, then hand it down to the coolest grandSON I had...she was THAT cool. And HOT!!!for an old chick

So stop your lyin' and rhymin' and get back to your 4-banger Honda...

Sorry, I have had 3 drinks, and the mention of Barbara Eden got me a little excited...

dont worry about it man, we are just yanking your chain well i am , JMHO if i had 500 ponies i would race it. i have appox 396 and i am goin to race mine, it wont be the fastest by no means, but it should be fun...500 hp on the street is kinda useless, speed limits being 65-70 MPH on the interstate , 25-30 in town

spent alot of money for something you cant ramp on, for to long:evilsmile

But it should be a cool car keep us posted:yup:

James, All that matters is you enjoy it, basically I was just making chit chat and prodding you to make that maverick all it can be. I'm a racer at heart so I enjoy seeing fast cars go fast. Time slips just help prove claims made. If you are happy,I'm happy for you. Like I said keep the updates coming:urock: :beerchug: This board is here to help you and support you. Maverickers RULE!!
This site has some of the best group of people bar none.

I just looked at the photos and they scare me. That rear hoop(?) will hit the drive shaft as the suspension moves down. It looks like a bed frame under there with bad welds. I'm not trying to pick on ya, but that does not look safe at all. That right angle welded square tube frame would never pass a tech inspection. There is just to much steel there and in the wrong places.

Sorry, please don't think I'm making a personel attack here, but I've been around this stuff too long to just not say this. It's your safety street or strip and 500 hp to boot.
