I have the same cooler, mounted w/ longest side vertical.
I have it mounted on the opposite side of the car. I have 2/3 abv the pan and the rest down in the valance opening. I can't say what the trans temp runs, but it must be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20' below engine temps.
If I ever need to remove the pan I most likely will put in a setup for a gauge.
Normally I run 190-200 on days below 80' w/o AC. It can run 200-220 in temps in mid 90's w AC running.

I was thinking of cuting the valance opening lower and adding a spoiler with small bumper mods.:)

That looks like a better place because of the vent holes in the radiator support in front of the battery. But, I already have my fan controller mounted on that side and didn't feel like moving it, extending wires, etc. So, if needed, vent holes will appear on the other side too. :yup:

I'm brining this thread back to life with a question...

Is it better to install the trans temp sender in the pan or in-line with the line that heads to a trans cooler? Online searches seem to give 50/50 results. Just wondering what others have done. Thanks!

I cut my supports up, and put in a much bigger radiator.

Then used a cowl/electric fan from "something", I think it was a taurus, but I went through a couple before I found what fit best, with thermostatic fan relay switch, comes on at 190, off at 175.

Best of all, it covers almost ALL of the finned area on the radiator.

This is a very old picture, lots have been added and changed since then, but the radiator and fan still exist on my setup.

A couple of things I'd like to know....Does the radiator work well for you on long drives? Champion 4 core? How's your health? Still living in Texas?
I'm in need of one,but not sure what route to go.

I had the same questions and concluded it depends on what you want to measure:

. Max temp that the fluid sees -- put the sensor in the line from the transmission to the cooler. That fluid is coming directly from the torque converter and will show the highest temp.

. Effectiveness of the trans cooler -- put it on the return line from the cooler to the transmission. (Didn't see any recommendations for this one.)

. Temp of the ATF that the trans sees -- put the sensor in the trans pan.

I put mine in the pan because I suspected the trans was acting up because of hot fluid at the drag strip and wanted to see that temp. BTW, no problems after the cooler was installed. Temp is usually in the 150-180 degree range. I think the trans "cooler" in the radiator is really acting as a trans heater some times.
