Can't you just bolt a chain to the block and to the frame somewhere without buying special part? Seems pretty straigtforward to me.

In fact, a 2" wide nylon lift strap might have less stretch than a chain. Any suggestions? I will strap it down to the frame under the shock tower...

There's always a right way, a cheap way and everything in between. $50 bucks doesn't seem too bad to do it right the first time. It's cool too because you can detach it instantly for mellow street driving and connect it up when your gonna hit the throttle hard. Driving around with a connection all the time would cause vibrations on the street.

How much are new motor mounts, a turnbuckle, bolts, etc. Might save $20-$30 I guess. I'm not saying I'd buy the part, I may build my own too, just thinking out loud guys.:)

The beauty of the turnbuckle is being able to loosen it for every day driving. only thing to watch out for is if you leave it for too long there's a chance it will vibrate loose all the way apart. Last time I looked at mine it was pretty close to coming apart. I've been thinking about coming up with some sort of limiter to keep it from coming apart.
More when I get off my lazy arse and do it.

    What modifications did it require?
