The Torino toploader is not a bolt in like a Stang toploader.
The Torino is longer, therefore it uses a long tail tranny, and the shifter is set further back.
The long tail toploader is to manual trannys what the C6 is to auto trannys. Size-wise anyway. It is the same length as the C6 and uses the C6 crossmember, mount, and yoke.
If you are familiar with what it would take to swap a Mav to a C6, then you know about what it would take to use this tranny:
    Custom crossmember
    Custom driveshaft

    Those are the biggies anyway.
    Good luck

All Stangs used the short tail toploader.
It is a direct bolt in for a Mav, and uses C4 dimensions. So it is a simple swap into any Mav, be it 3 speed or C4.
The only fun part is the pedals and linkage if doing an auto to manual swap.
I don't know about the Torino pedals. I used Falcon pedals and ended up doing a lot of fabbing and hybriding the parts. My gut feeling is that the Torino stuff will not work.
    Good luck

Edit: Did I misunderstand your question?
Sounds like you may have been wondering if you could just change the tail shaft housing on your Torino toploader and make it a short shaft.
    Short answer: No.
Long answer: The Torino tranny is the same as a Stang tranny for the most part. You could swap enough parts to make a short shaft tranny, but it wouldn't be cost effective IMO. It calls for some major (expensive) parts replacement and a complete teardown of the tranny to swap. Cheaper to find the right tranny.
