Yes, Fel Pro gaskets, a little bit more money than some, but well worth it.

the felpro set is $65 thru summit. still a little cheaper ompared to others listed on the page

some of the local "old farts" are kinda scared these pistons and/or heads are seriously going to hold me back

any ideas? like i said im not looking for much but they think they'll negate any affect a mild cam or intake combo might do

There are different Felpro sets, with different grade cylinder head gaskets. I don't see any problem using those pistons, your not building a race car.

OK, thats what i was thinking

any thoughts for head gasket thickness?

if i decrease the head gasket thinkness i'd then have to get inake gaskets tat were that much thinker and push rods that were that much shorter?

yea. car cruise season is kicking off this weekend so i'll se what people have sitting around they wont be needing lol. junk yards are a lost cause around here.

when you mentioned the head gaskets i thought you were saying get thinner ones to bump the CR

the fel pro set in summit is the same set for all 68-82 302's

im going to prove everyone wrong(y) C9s kick arse

if i had the dough id take two engines with similar parts , one with c9 and one with e7s and see what comes out on top

niether head was great from the factory
c9 werent great from the factory stupid exhaust bump
    but rated at 290hp
E7s? not sure on hp numbers but c9 out flow e7s with simlar port work

He should be able to find a set of better heads than he has, already ported & polished with a recent valve job for cheap. The cylinder head discussion is like :deadhorse

i definatly find that statement believable

my friends grandfather offered me a 71 torino 4v 302 for free last summer and i didnt take it. its been outside under an old tarp for about 12 years now so i was a little nervous lol maybe i should go see if the offer is still open

If you really want to bump the compression up, use a set of C6OE 289 heads. You'll loose about 14-15ccs in chamber volume. Your compression will go up from about 8.5 to 9 to 1, to 10 to 1. If you do some hunting, you could find a set of these that have been reworked with bigger valves and porting, along with screw in studs and better springs, all for less than you'll spend on anything else.
