To be honest, I like the 4 dr hardtops of the 60's and 70's. I used to have a 56 Olds Holiday 4 dr hardtop that (in my opinion) was a cool looking car! They looked just like the 2 dr except for the rear door handle. :)

I'm not a huge fan of four doors but there are a few that make my list, a 55 Buick Special (no post), 1957 Bel Air Sports Sedan (no post), 1964 Lincoln Continental w/sucide doors, 65 Nova Wagon, All Chevy Nomad's, 65 Ford Galaxy LTD and new to my list the 1970 Buick Estate Wagon from the movie The Way Way Back.

I'm definitely with you on that one. I love those cars. '61-'64.

I think some of the stigma that 4 doors used to carry is the idea that it meant that you were weighed down with kids and responsibility. Personal freedom was a big theme of the 60s, after coming out of the straight-laced era before it.

You wouldn't see James Bond driving a 4 door.... ever.

My old man was pretty stubborn about this too. He had a string of iconic cars in the 50s ... sometimes trading three cars in a year as his one personal ride. When there were now two kids to look after, the 62 Catalina tri-power convertible got traded for a pedestrian 64 Olds 88 ... but it was still a two door, by god.

Another sister arrived, and we started taking road trips from Chicago to FL to see relatives each year. Two and half days each way stuck in the back seat of that Olds with my bratty little sisters and no A/C.

That car got traded for a 1970 Galaxie. A bit bigger, but still clinging for dear life to two doors. Definitely was a machismo thing ....

As I got to 6' tall, he finally relented and bought a 74 Olds Delta 88 four door. All three of us kids were getting bigger and loading us in and out of a two door was becoming a chore for everyone.

Interesting video! Recently I saw a '64 Galaxie 500 XL 4 door at a show. It was white with red interior. Restored. You don't see to many of these. Very sporty inside.
