I wouldn't doubt that he could have had $3,600 in paint a few yrs. ago.
Even without lots of rust repair. Some people accept others prices and
    wait for the results.
I know that red is a little pricey, but I paid close to $1,100 in just materials for
everything my guy used. That was primer, base, clear, and some other
    materials.
DM-you have the same color, I guess that you found the same types of
prices. Tim Wilmoth and Stephen Moore are the only ones here that have
seen my car, and I showed them the imperfections and I am still satisfied with
    what I got.
If there are few flaws, I bet $3,600 was not bad for that paint from the pics.

That is close to what my guy told me what the paint cost but I don't think he included the primer or the Dupont Black for the hood and rear panel. All in all these guys gave me an $8,000 paint and straightening job for $4,000. I have had many positive comments on both the paint and the panels. My car was rust-free but had 33 years of dings, bumps, waves and inferior factory welds and seams. They straightened all that out before paint and prime.

They are guys I hang out with once in a while - but since they are a collision shop I have referred lots of work to them. They prefer that I DO NOT refer restoration work to them .. :)

Its really hard to find a body shop that will do restoration. If you do, be prepaired to pay. $4000 for dm's paint job is a bargain if it as good as it looks, and I'm sure it is.

On top of that add in masking tape, sandpaper, plastic fillers, thinners and cleaners, etc ... it adds up really quick ...
