Straight alignment still pulls to right, due to crown of road.

I paid full price first then told to add eccentrics. Next visit same place tried to charge full but talked down half price. Third visit xifferent location paid full then realized both places were goodyear/gemini with 6mo warranty so got reimbursed for it. This one is free under warranty.

That is why i drove so far...want to keep using gemini warranth but want another guy doing the work. I figure eventually i will find someone who knows their stuff and can get it right.

I need to fight first guy and get that other half-payment refunded.

I wish...but they dont serve wine at goodyear. Funny though...when you drink a good wine, you always say "that was a good year"!!!

By George...I think I have GOT IT!!!

Straight as an arrow now. Sad thing, this was the youngest guy so far to work on it, couldn't have been 20. Immediately saw what was wrong with it, lined it up with a bit more caster on one side, test drove it, and handed it over. No problems, now.

I will try to upload the printout tomorrow.

Who the hell set the toe in the before pic?? You could have done better with a tape measure!! No wonder it drove so bad. Some people just shouldnt be working in the trade. At least the caster being out a bit wont eat your tires. Looks good now though. I imagine it feels like a different truck.

I think what happened was the washer on the caster/camber adjuster plates were installed between the eccentric and the frame (as per instructions, honestly...I was the one who installed them!). I thought that was counter-intuitive, but the instructions said to install them that way.

Anyway, I think the previous guy got the allignment close, then they just let loose and the caster/camber went all out and took the toe with it. (And, actually, there was this one time I was on the freeway the day I got it aligned last and it felt like the car just jumped 10" over, like I lost all control of the steering for a second at 70 mph. Eerie feeling. Almost like a hydroplane or like the road surface shifted or something. Anyway, that was probably when the kits let loose and the caster/camber went to crap.)

The guy yesterday took the kits apart, put the washer between eccentric and nut/bolt heads, and lined it up as you see here.

It really DOES feel like a completely different truck.

I can let go on a lightly crowned road and it will stay in the lane for 1/4 mile or so just slowly drifting. On a flat road, it just stays where I have it.

Looks more like he forgot to lock the steering wheel. BUT, it's good now and your happy.

alot of our customers think i shouldnt be doin much more than oil changes because im relatively young. Fact is that I have more experience than most of the older techs i work with. Most guys hate dealing with anything electronic so when i first started i got all the crap jobs nobody else wanted,, ANY elec issue, steering/susp concerns, etc And in doing so I am the guy everyone has to go to for help.

Not being offensive toward the young guy, but giving him the credit he is due!

The first guy was 60-ish, 2nd guy was late 30s, 3rd guy said on phone when I first called "those guys are more experienced than I am, and probably know more than I do, but I am willing to give it a try."

It was that honest answer that made me drive the hour each way to let him "give it a try" and he ended up being the one that found the error that the other 2 guys missed, AND got it straight.

So, it may not be age, or experience, but just the "desire to do it right" that he had that the other guys didnt. yeah, it took him a long time, and he had to do it twice, but he did it for free, and he did it right.

So my point is, don't immediately shun the young guy...he may be the one that does it right for you.

As rough as some of those roads are around there I'm surprised you can keep a front end aligned at all. Geez, can Texas not smooth concrete out? Some of those bumps and breaks are enough to knock anything out of align. Glad you found somebody that knew what to do, seems to be a rare find today to find somebody that actually cares about the quality of their work....
