Side exhaust pipes that are usually chrome or Alum. They were popular when I was in High School. In my case they were Thrush brand with the little wood pecker head on the side. Jc Whitney used to carry them.
    Good luck,

What did you expect? It's a 35 year-old car with a six cylinder, and it cost you a whole $300...

A 200 CI is equivalent to a 3.3 L metric. If you are looking for fast, then there are V8 options such as 302, 351, 5.0. But there are issues with the conversion which may cost prohibitive. You will have to decide how much you want to sink into the engine and tranny and other costs. As a member of FordSix, I can give you some suggestions for improving the performance of your 200. First, you may want to do a compression and vacuum check on the engine. It may be time to rebuild. You can install a Duraspark dizzy to give you a small boost in performance. These are available relatively cheap if you look around. You can install a performance header which will add some more horsies. The heads are basically a POS and are commonly used as boat anchors. Find an OZ head if you can, and you will add some significant horsepower. We had one member that did a dyno check before and after a Duraspark and OZ head install and there was a 38 HP gain. There is an aftermarket aluminum head coming out that will place your 6 in another realm. It is currently being beta tested on Will's car. The flow numbers are posted on FordSix for the head. They are impressive. You can go all out and buy a cam, fuel injection, roller rockers, etc. I guess you will have to decide if you want to expend the cash for something that most people do not have (a custom built 200) or put it into a V8. Weigh your options based on how much cash you want to sink into it.

how much horsepower is possible from a 3.3 I6 in your opinion. i would be satisfied with a bit over 200(without EFI). isn't fspp making an adapter for a roots stye supercharger? would a 2bbl add horsepower?

A 2 bbl will help, but you are talking a 100 hp increase.

We estimate my 200 (NOT A 3.3) at about 175-200 Net hp. Stock was 120BHP/90-100 Net HP

250 cu.in. Head ported and valves unschrouded,.040 milled off to increase compression.Largest valves available from Ford installed. Adjustable rockers.
Isky 262 cam, 302 valve springs.
    Holley webber 2 bbl.
.030 over bore on block and .040 removed from the deck to bring pistons to top of block. Smallest dish pistons used. Felpro composit head gasket used.
    lightened flywheel.

    A blower would be good.

Remember. all 200's are not 3.3L. The 3.3L is a metric motor and will not bolt into your maverick!

Yes 3.3L = 200 CU.IN., but the engine called a 3.3L is not the same as any engine put in a Maverick. They came out in 1978 or 1979 in Mustangs, Granada's and Monarch's. They were dropped a few short years later.

engine, trans Mounts and other mounts are not the same and will not work with your car.

Using your 200 cu" engine, a mild cam and a blow through 2 bbl Holley on an adapter with a modified intake log so there is no restriction from an adapter using a belt driven supercharger (centrifugal) you should be able to get at least 250 hp on the street. With the blow through system and the carb in a box you don't have any lag or soft spot in the acceleration. It is easy on the motor and aside from forged pistons (at 8:1 CR) you won't need any expensive components in your engine. You will need to have the C4 beefed up and a special modulator installed but that is normal hot rodding. You could go with a turbo kitrunning 10 to 12 pounds of boost with nearly the same results. You will need to have the early 170 adjustable rocker assy or an aftermarket adjustable rocker set (if they make one) to adjust the tappets for your new cam (especially if you select a solid tappet cam).

I did read the whole thing, and the fact that you were "disappointed" at all is strange, because again I wonder, what did you expect from it, performance from a 35 year-old bone-stock 6-cylinder?...

read down a few posts, stmanser made pretty much the same assumption. i explained that i was very happy with the car for 300 dollars, but i was displeased with the performance on another level...

I've bought wrecked parts cars for more than $300, you got off pretty good.

You've got a sub 3000 pound car on your hands, drop in that 302 then see the smile on your face...

You are still belaboring the wrong point. He was disappointed, then discovered the thing wasn't even running on all 6 cylinders. He even said in his first post that after he took care of that, it had "a little get up and go"
