Seems like the car buying bug has bit you. Be carefull and don't make a rushed purchase. Sit back and the right car will come your way.
Yeah. I don't have one at the moment. It's a long and painful story, but I'm in the market for a new car and my credit is awful enough that I'll never get a loan even after the recession/depression is over. So, I'm searching out a fantasy car on the cheap. I figure if I'm going to buy, I'm going to buy some old classic that I'll love. I've been on the prowl for awhile, but recently my roommate has decided he hates his current job and started looking elsewhere so I have to get a car. If he moves jobs then we can't car pool anymore!
I'd say nah to that one. mines got virtually no rust other than surface rust in minute amounts, not even the floorboards/trunk, and the 200 six. it needed a gas tank, carb rebuilt, paint, and now it needs the ground cables/starter wires cleaned/replaced and MAYBE a new starter. $600 asking price. got it for $500. no real negotiating. Mine was on facebook marketplace. just keep an eye on all your local markets. Facebook, craigslist, ebay, newspaper, etc. and you'll eventually find a steal.
Maybe I should still buy and tell him 600 since it's a piece and he couldn't fix the brake lights. It also has a rebuilt/salvage title.
won't hurt to offer a lower price. the worst he can do is say no. and if its not worth it then don't pay it, cause it's not like theres not a better one out there for a better price. it's just the finding it. Good luck though. I kinda hope someone who will fix it will buy it though. it may be a piece, but its still a maverick.
that is a crappy deal because: 1. salvage title 2. only a 200 six 3. all the rust and damage 4. all the wiring issues i wouldnt pay over 200 for that car out here! i paid 350 for my 73 and all it needed when i bought it was a 3x4 in lower quarter section. my 69.5 cost me 600 and it was all original no rust crappy looking paint, and i sold the alloy rims for 700 and got stock steelies! just wait youll find a way better car for a low price
Are you looking for a daily driver? If so, I would be looking for something newer, especially if you live where they salt the roads in winter ... ( I grew up near you ...) If you are looking for a project car that can stay immobile while you dive into it, then I would say that a 40-year-old car can be fine. It always seems that one repair or project will spawn 3 or 4 others ... dive in for one thing and you will see other stuff that needs attention. Very hard to do if you have to hurry up, shoot some primer at it, and then jump in it to go to work. There are some very solid cars in the Southwest ... rust-free and cheap. The Gulf Coast is a good second choice , but we have a humid climate. It can be worth it to transport one to you to avoid rust. Rust is like an iceberg ... what you can see is a fraction of what is there.
You know, that's a really good quote. I'll keep that in mind. I still haven't decided on whether or not to buy the thing. I've emailed my brother and I'll say it's his call. If he says he can fix it, then I'll believe him and try to get it for six.
