What about a V8 SHO engine?
Yamaha made one, I don't know how many made it into Ford cars though...

the later years SHO's had the v8's, they werent nearly as good as the 6's,from what I've experianced and heard from other sho owners.
my 90 would run off and leave a 98 with the v8.

I seem to remember something about Yamaha was going to provide their V8 based on the 6, but Ford decided to use a V8 of it's own... Something about cost.
That is why I was wondering how many Yamaha V8s actually made it out of Ford.
The whole thing was short lived, no matter what engine it used.

I know the Yamaha V8 was made and tested, it was supposed to be a screamer.

I can't find anything on the internet about the 5.0 in a taurus but I've seen one. It was a 98 or 99! Most were 3.4 liter V8s

Dave; I asked at work today, and the SHO's were all Yamaha engines, both the V6 and the V8. I remember them coming off the line, and always thought they were very nice to look at. Lots of aluminum, lots of color and lots of power. Ford never put a 5.0 in the Taurus. Something about the weight of the engine over the steering and weight distribution. The Yamaha engine was quite a bit less weight. This info comes from the engineers that worked the cars when they were being built. Sure wish I had one. I think a V6 SHO powered Mav would be the bomb!:49:

Earl, are you sure? could it have been a special order? I don't think it was an aftermarket swap! Earl, I'm not doubting you but I saw the darn thing!!

I'm pretty sure they never made a Taurus with a 5.0. My next door neighbor did have one with a V8 for a few years though. It was white, didn't say anything about a SHO on it, just had a "V8" badge on the fenders. It was a '98 I believe. They traded it in on a new Dodge Grand Caravan. They had alot of problems with that car.

Earl works at the plant where they build Taurus' and Sable's, so I think of anyone here he would know. :)

EFIMAV; it would have had to be a swapped-in enbgine, but there was never a 5.0 Taurus or Sable from the factory. We built them here, and I have been here since 1996, and all we put in the SHO's were Yamaha engines.

thanks earl, only reason i thought it may be factory is i can't imagine taking the time to perform such a swap in a taurus. I have no idea what transaxle was used?

EFIMAV: I can find out for you. We have some of the guys here that still have these things, and some even have the six cylinder car with the 5spd. Nice cars!

The yammie V8's were prone to the cam gears coming off; IIRC there was a TSB out on just that problem. The gears are pressed onto the camshafts and could come off. Several places are welding the gears to the shafts to eliminate the problem.

Actually both the V6 and V8 were designed by Yamaha, blocks built by Ford and the heads were built by Yamaha. Woulda been neat to see a Genesis 5-valve per cylinder head on either the 6 or 8...Yamaha's 5 vavle heads have a ton of potential.

    The v8's were 3.4L,the 5spd v6's were 3.0L,but the automatic v6's were 3.2L.The v8 SHO's were usually about half a second behind the v6 cars.:16suspect
