the rod is there so that when you place the car in park....the column is rotated so that you can turn the car off and remove the key. When in gear......you can't turn the ignition back far enough in order to remove the key.

The floor shift linkage is specific to the floor shift...and specific to a maverick I believe. I think it would be pretty simple to fab something up.

I was just checking the car... even tho i have a FLOOR shift... on the colum of the sterring wheel by the turn signal, i have, seems to me MAYBE part of where a colum shifter may have been... its just a solid black piece about the colum that moves, but noithing it connected to it... If i move the FLOOR shifter OR that piece on the coluym that piece moves on the part under the hood that connects to the steering colum that you say controls taking out the key...

This might be fun to describe...

inside on the steering colum first you have the steering wheel and then you have the colar with the ignition key and turn signal, then you have a metal collar that dont do anything, i CAN twist it and see the floor shifter move when i twist the colar. Was that more clear.. Had TOOOOO many screwdrivers when i typed that :)

O.K........that collar is "supposed" to turn with the floorshift. That is what I was talking about in my thread. It turns so you can only remove the key when the car is in park. Kind of a safety feature.
