I would be HONORED to have my butt kicked by Carrol Shelby...and anyone else who says they wouldn't...LIAR
Actually, a couple weekends back we had FFW here in Houston, and I heard that Shelby was at another car show just a bit south of Houston, kinda on my way home. I should have taken the opportunity to go and meet him, but Anna was sunburned from the 6 hours of sun at the FFW so we ended up just going home. I really wanted to ask him if there is such a thing as a "Shelby Maverick" and put this argument to rest once and for all...
I don't know about "honored," but you sure would have a story to tell that no one else has. "Great-Grandpa, how did you get that dimpled head?" "Son, years ago, when we were allowed to own cars that run on something we called gasoline, I decided to make a car called the Shelby Maverick. However, Mr. Shelby, a legend in my day and master car builder, didn't care for it and whooped me with his cain at the age of 83. Nobody else ever had that happen to 'em. Look here - he autographed this bump with what we used to call a Sharpie. I haven't washed that bump in 60 years."
Man, I am really laughing out loud...the windows are open, and the neighbors must think I am much crazier than I really am... But, yeah, that is about how it would have gone, if I had gone to that show... By the way, remember that I was bitten by a penguin a year ago Christmas... Not many can say that in all honesty...
I didn`t mean that someone should build it and try to pass it off as the real thing . I meant build it for fun...you know like all the Cobra replicas on the market that aren`t real and Carol Shelby didn`t have a hand in building.
Ray`s car is the closest thing to a Shelby Maverick I`ve ever seen... And if Ford woulda made them like that they might of out sold the Mustang version!
Which is exactly why Ford didn't. Ford slap-dab absolutley refused to give any other car the opprotunity to be their performance best seller. They came close with the introduction of '74-78 Mustang II models, but still considered those to be their (laughingly) performance babies. Can you imagine what ford would be like today if they had done all the "shouldas" and had avoided a lot of their blunders?:16suspect BTW, Ray does have meanest and most awesome looking Maverick. Now, he has an engine in there to back up up all that menace.
I'll take a check from anybody on this forum because I have Little Archie to resolve any problems that may arise.
I've got to agree with both of you now that I've seen the car and met the man in person If FORD had of had Ray designing Mavericks back then, they would have outsold Mustang II's three to one....
Dang...you guys are gonna five dollar me to death now, aren't you. I'm running out of money!!! Thanks Bobby
