Hope it fits 'cause I already bought one. Didn't know the open and Traction-Loc differential housings are different. Have a guy lined up to set it up and am in the process of pulling the center section now. Seller has an excellent ebay rating and he said it would fit. Will let ya'll know how it turns out.

The differential housings (the part the leaf springs bolt to) and carriers (the part the case bolts into) are the same, the cases (the part that the ring gear bolts to) are different. Unless there is something I don't know about.

I like the sound of that. Good article. Only question I have about it is he recommends sealer rather than a gasket when mounting the center section. I have a new gasket but not sure if I should us it or not.

The article reminded me I gotta pick up a new pinion bearing. Thanks.:thumbs2:

Hope this isn't a hi jack. Should be good info for anyone contemplating Traction-Loc.

    Grease?

I'm having the TL installed in the center section now. Can anyone tell me if the TL requires a special grease? If yes, how critical is it that I get all the old grease out of the differential housing before its refilled? Any additives recommended?

you will want to get a limited slip additive from ford or gm. use natrual base gear oil not synthetic. we use a streight 140 wt at my shop. you should be able to find a 85-140. do not use stalube products. they are worthless. lucas oil is really good. valvoline is ok to use. its a good idea to get as much oil out of the housing as possible. then spray a can of brake clean in and give it a good wipe down.

I picked up 3 qts of Lucas gear oil and a pump and have this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-19546-A1/ on the way. Now, if the guy installing the TL would just return my call ... I suspect its too cold in his shop to work on it.

    Thanks for the info.
