Re: flex fan. They are considered to be a performance item due to
the smaller blades. They have less resistance, thus they don't slow
the engine down. That means they don't move as much air.
With the motor off-you knew that- bend one of the blades with your
hand. They are probably very 'flex'ible. Meaning they straighten out
under speed and don't move anything.

I'd find a factory style fan and toss that thing. One should fit from
other year and makes of vehicles.

What is the chrome/black thing in between the seats?

Is it possible that the car was exported to another country outside the US
prior to being imported to Sweden or does your paperwork say it came
directly to Sweden from the US?

If you are interested in the original stripes, they are reproduced and sold
here in the states for about $100 or so.

    Nice car.

    Hey, Tim-

I don't know if it is any better than yours, but I have
    a hood ornament for you.

I must have sold that ornament with the newer crest
    insert.
Give me your address and you can have it for free.
It has a bolt added where the pin broke off, but it
may be of some use to you.

It seems this little Comet has gone INTERNATIONAL! Very cool to see cars from abroad. I am intrigued by the steering wheel and it is also strange to see the speedo in KPH. Nice find.(y)

nice car. hope you enjoy it. when i first saw the pictures the first thing that came to mind was the flex plan as part of your cooling problem. i agree with seth that a solid fan may be the way to go. also a shroud would make a difference. good luck with it.:D

Are those some type of internal rear louvers in the back window?

Wow, what a reception! I´ll try and reply to each individual in a single post.

Seth, thanks for the explanation on the flex-fan. I´ll see what alternative I can come up with!
The chrome/black thing is a seatbelt fastener. It´s another non-original addition from the cars past. Works pretty well, except for the fact that the bolt that fastens it to the driveshaft-hump sticks out too much on the underside, so that if I hit full throttle too fast with another passenger in the car, the bolt makes contact to the driveshaft as the rear suspension compresses!
It is a possibility that the car was imported from elsewhere than the US. I had a closer look at the document, and it clearly states that the car was imported as a used car early 1973, and first registered in Sweden mid 1973, it does however NOT state where from the car was imported, which I was under the impression that it did.
I´ve been considering adding original striping, but have come to the conclusion that I pretty much like the car as it is. Might give the area in front of the hood-scoop a "white-out" treatment similar to the black-out on the original cars though. I think that somewhere in the future (5-10 years) this car will need a new paintjob and possibly some other work. That might be the right time to go all stock. Thanks for the tip though!

Maverickguy, thanks for the double-thumbsup! :)

My Comet GT, thanks for the information regarding the crest for the front of the hood! I´ll have to see if I can locate a crest for the car.

Bigbully, I´m glad you can see the speedo, for personally when I´m behind the wheel, anything above 30Mph is obscured by the bloody steeringwheel. I´ll have to learn to read the speed off the tach instead!

Qicvick, I´ll be following this board closely, and probably post occasionally if there´s anything I feel I can contribute with. I´m definitely not planning on going anywhere! ;)

Don Graham, I am enjoying the car very much. Thanks for the second opinion on the flex-fan too. :)

Dmhines, yes that´s exactly what they are internal louvers (or shades) They actually do quite a bit to keep the temperature down in the coupe. They do however shake and rattle when I hit the accellerator, especcially with the windows down. I can live with that, I actually like the way they look in this car. :)

I took another look at the VIN # on your car and the F in the serial number indicates the car was made at the Kansas City plant. Hard to say where it went from there. Have you ever looked for the build sheet for your Comet? It's a folded up sheet of paper tucked up under the front seat in the springs. It has all kinds of information on it about what your Comet came with while it was on the assembly line. It's mostly in code and I don't know anyone who has figured it out yet, but it's a handy item to have. Just be carefull removing it. They tend to be very brittle from age and can easily fall apart.

A Marti Report would tell you what dealership ordered the car and when it was sold to the original purchaser ....

Jean, no I haven´t looked for the buildsheet yet. I´ll try and remember to do so tomorrow. There´s a good chance that it isn´t there anymore, as the car would have been pretty much torn to bits during its restoration. On the other hand when taking into consideration the time and effort they once put into the car, perhaps they understood the significance of the buildsheet and left it/put it back. It´s worth a shot, thanks for the tip! :)

Maverick Man, I paid 34.000 swedish Krona for it, which would translate into roughly 4.500$US. Probably a lot of money to you I would guess, but prices are generally higher here. You should know that I got 45.000 (around 6.000$US) for my 1967 Mustang HT with a sixcylinder, and that was nowhere NEAR the shape that this car is in (though it was certainly not a basketcase either). I´m extremely happy with my purchase so far! :D

Dmhines, yes I´m aware of the Marti reports from having owned several old Mustangs and being a member of the VMF (Vintage Mustang Forum). IIRC they cost a bit, and while the history behind my car would be interesting to know, at this time I´m quite happy knowing that it is a solid Comet GT.
The question regarding the export/import history was raised more because I stated what I thought I knew about the car (that it had been exported as "used" from the US) and others here questiones this info for good reasons. As it turns out the document I have says nothing about what country the car came from when it was being imported into Sweden. At one time or another I may feel the urge to learn more about the cars history. But as it is now, I´m very content with having decoded the VIN-tag with the help of the link provided by Jean Doll. :)
