New cam, heads, on original 302 motor? When will it BLOW?

    you comment that your lack of hp is due to the lack of compression. not completely true. if you are using the stock timing set, change to a pre 1972 timing set (or at least the crank gear). ford retarded the camshaft a whole lot by means of the crank gear. simplest way to up the compression is to go to earlyier heads and take a grinder to the ports. early (1965-67) heads had very small chambers. 1965 hipo heads were 49cc chanbers. ports and valve size were small. all years of ports have the same potential for porting: the early ones just need more metal removed. if you dig up some heads with 50-55 cc chambers, you can pick up some compression while still using the stock gaskets. the other problem with early heads is the exhaust seats arent hardened for unleaded. i have ben told that this isnt worth worrying about in a limited use engine.
