Talked with Wages, he recommended some parts for the rebuild, cleaning, and basic tuning to get it started. Then when I get a better feel for Holley, I will fine tune it out on the highway. He makes it sound really easy, so I don't think it will be too difficult to get a hang of it.
For the record ...my timing is locked out (no advance of any kind) and is set at 36 degrees. I have a start retard on my MSD Digital -6 plus ignition box so the engine can start . As soon as the engine is running my timing is at 36 degrees ALL the time. Many racers do this and my car runs GREAT this way. Not recommending you do this Scooper... just giving you some more Info to clutter your thoughts
There is some stuff missing from that carb... I'm not at home to get a better pic. Actually, even if I was, I cant post any right now thanks to Yahoo mail .
Your not even using the rear pump! Once you fix that, you'll have to check the "seat of your pants" when you feel that one kick in
You gotta talk down to me until I get the hang of this...Not using the rear pump? Stuff missing? More than just the entire choke assembly?
X2 my is locked out at 32* runs great. No msd though just a little tack weld on the weights. No starting problems either.
Hey Scott just looking at carb pics and you should double check that there is no vacume leaking from the area where the choke was removed. If memory serves me correct there is a vacume port there. Not 100% sure but worth a check.
Mine has this for my automatic to feel like an automatic when i'm not bangin it Another one of them gadgets that I aint tried yet
Locked in timing works great on the track but on a car that is going to be driven in trafic you need to be able to have it retard at low rpm. Unlike the track most street driving is under 3000 rpm. Smokey Yunick was the first racer to ever "lock in" the advance at NASCAR. It works when your rpm is kept above 2500 - 3000 rpm most of the time, but on the street? Not with my aluminum pistons!
My car runs excellent on the street, fires right up, does fine in traffic . This motor runs as good on the road as any Hot rodded engine that I have ever owned (quite a few) I do however have a 3,800 converter and 4.11 gears. As I told Scooper when I first mentioned it... It was just an FYI not really a recommendation.
