went to our track banquet last night. we bring the class winners cars into the banquet room at the holiday inn. was a neat sight to see. high school-ford mustang, sportsman-ford maverick(mine), pro-ford falcon, super pro-ford roadster. the falcon and the roadster had chevy motors, but it still was neat seeing all the fords in a row.
A lot of people forget the original hot rod engine was the FORD flathead, then when the SB Chevy everybody switched to it. Why? It was a better design, easier to work on, faster, and parts got even cheaper with time. For a long time, FORD lagged behind Chevy in performance engines, Ford parts cost more, and were harder to get than the Chevy pieces. The late 5.0 Mustangs really evened the playing field for the FORD vs Chevy debate. Point is, the early hot rodders used what they had to go fast, Chevys in FORDS, Caddys in Studebakers, Chrysler Hemi's in Willy's and Fiat Topolinas. Crossbreeding makes is nothing new in the hotrod world. Heck, I put a Buick V6 in a Toyota pickup one time! Myself in a street car I prefer FORD in a FORD, Chevy in a Chevy, Mopar in a Mopar, etc., but a hotrod is the total of it's parts, wherever they come from. How many hotrods have Ford 9" rears? Why do so many drag cars run powerglides ? Why is the Mustang II the front supension design of choice for most swaps? It's all a matter of using either what you have on hand or what works best for you. I like hotrodbob's idea, put some FORD Racing valve covers on it and call it an Ford Secret Experimental motor, 90% of people won't know the difference. Point is, it's a racecar, it's made to go fast, so have fun doing it! And it's a Maverick, so it will be noticed and talked about [good or bad], no matter whats under the hood!
I gotta go with George on this one....hell if I had a motor that could move a 4200 lb. car to a 9.91 and a tube chassis Mav with no motor in it I wouldn't be able to get the BBC in their fast enuf...if for no other reason than to see how fast it would go and when I had an extra 15 grand layin around build me a SBF to stick in it...keep us posted George...I'm gonna be real interested to see if the BBC moves your car quicker than my SBF moves mine and if I can lend any of my limited expertise on the matter just holler
Devil's advocate And you do? There's some sort of silent majority on here that thinks chevy engines belong in Fords? Leave Dan out of this. So, he's more of a Maverick, and going against the crowd by putting a Chevy engine in his old Ford huh? Kind of missed it there didn't ya Rick? So do I. Bunch of push-overs... Where's T.L., dammit? I can't take the political correctness.
Awh you guys, it's so nice to see one big happy family talking out their differences like this. Dr. Phil would be so proud of us. Did I miss the group hug or are you guys still holding on? LOL. We are all hot rodders deep down inside.
It's getting kind of creepy in here if you ask me. And that ends my weekend fun, since Rick ain't no fun. reapersmagic, good luck with the car and definately post some pictures up when you get it together! Should be pretty badass. Can't wait to hear what it runs like.
Jamie, you missed the point.... again. It's all I can do to keep from making a public a** out of you on this board sometimes - but you do a pretty good job of doing it to yourself.
I feel the love... Actually, you missed it. But that's pretty normal. You really don't have to keep yourself from doing anything. LOL only here...
How could you say something like that about my buddy John? I, for one, am very offended. Way to make a public a$$ out of yourself Lonnie. Back to work...
Pink cars...purple cars.....teal cars......:evilsmile Lonnie, thanks for the laugh....you A$$ :evilsmile
reapersmajic, I also run at atco, I won the 1st 12.00 index race a couple years back, mostly bracket race though, looking to run a few 10.00 index races next year with the maverick on 100 shot, I also have a green 69 cougar that runs low 10's with a stroked sbf. Hope to see you down there.
