Back in the day, most people did not take care of there Mavericks. Always dirty, damaged, parts missing, primer all over the bottom or all primer with bumpers missing and damaged hoods. People drove them until they were junk and that was that! They did not leave people with a very good image of that car. It was a care free car driven hard and put away wet that people remember. I was different of course and it was noticed.

25 yrs/35 yrs, classic/antique. It doesnt matter, what matters is how much and what it means to you...The owner. As for popularity...it was...Back in its heyday,it was one of the best selling econmy cars on the road but, Ford didnt want it to compete with the mustang, whos' sales were dropping in the early seventies. Hence the lack of a performance package or options. It was meant to be plain vanilla and it did it well. The fact that so many still survive is a testament to their... dare I say it...quality...Run hard and put away wet... Used out and up...Throw away cars.
Lots of em still around and cheap too...I love it!!! Besides...popularity is purely subjective and overrated...:party5:

All good points with the ,"i used to own one of these cars" theme running through all of this. We are the lucky one's because WE still own 'em.

    My 2 cents is
If it makes you happy thats all that matters
I have a 84 mazda rx7 that is 600 hp street car the guys love to bug me about it but who cares really it is something I wanted to build and it is cool to me.
Most of my friends are classic hot rod guys with there 32 -40 fords 50 mercs
they think it is funny that I am about to take on building a Maverick and spending gobs of cash on it. To others it is sounds like a waste to me it makes me unique.
