How does this look? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4513395343&category=34202
That is the type. Be awhere that the Mustang buyers might bid it up just to be have it as show correct parts on their cars, otherwise it is not a high dollar item. Some time ago a compny was advertising them new in a mag for $40 + shipping. They do weigh, so consider shipping cost in addition to the price.
New member question, same subject I have a 74 Maverick with a 250. The car runs but needs vacuum hoses put in original locations(trying to determine) and the carb rebuilt. The car sat in a barn for two years. The carb on it is a Motorcraft carb with the following info: EO8E ALA B OF2 The parts stores tell me this is not a carb that was on the Maverick and what I read in the Chilton, Petersons, Motor books seems to confirm this. The only thing I have found as to original parts is the Chilton Maverick/Comet book says the YFA was '75-76 and the RBS was '74. I have a choice of getting a rebuilt Carter YFA or a rebuilt Carter RBS from AutoZone. Can anyone offer me advice as to which one I should use? Or am I starting out on the wrong track? I'm just starting out with the restore process and want to make sure the mechanical side is original.
TEEN MAV, after doing some research, I found the following info you might be intersted in. The 74-250 uses the Carter RBS carb as oem. The name Motorcraft and Auto Lite are one and the same in that time peroid. The numbers you gave seem to be related to carbs speced for 1980 with the same numbering sequences. I would assume that the carb you have is not the correct application for a car as early as 1974. There was an Auto Lite/Motor Craft model 1100 used on the Mustang 6 in the late 60s early 70s. Suggest you look out for a full set of factory manuels for your year range. I have volume 6 that shows all the hose routings for all models but there were variations depending on were the car was sold and what options it was eqqipped with.
Thank You!!!! Can I beg for a little more help??? Bluegrass, Thank you for your reply. You stated the RBS was the OEM. Now, are there any negatives to installing that model over the YFA? I'm young and a newbie to this stuff, so please bear with me. I hate asking you for more info, but until I can find the full tech manual set somewhere my mechnical restore is in limbo. With the substitution of the carb and air cleaner assembly, it is hard as heck to figure out what vacuum lines and ports actually were. I have found a three port PVS on the firewall; a sparkport valve(black/red) on the line from the distributor; what appears to be either a two port decel or PVS valve on the front left of the engine at the end of a 1" tube coming from the firewall(which has a mechanical one port valve near the firewall). There is a heat riser tube coming out from under the exhaust manifold. The EGR valve(one port) is on the end of a carb spacer. The air cleaner assembly came off of another Maverick(possibly '72). Is there a way you could scan the Vol 6 vac hoses pages and e-mail them to me at rbade@prairie.lakes.com??? BTW, I am looking for another air cleaner assembly(the '74 OEM). Again, I thank you for your help!
steve don't go buying any manifold... you sound too hungry. the right one will come along. plenty of yards around here. that place i got the 76 parts from should have one or two. they are very reasonable too! of like somebody earlier said, only buy used peformance from somebody you know.
No down side to putting the RBS on. As long as your e-mail address is good, I will try to copy the pages that should apply and send as an attachment. Very often e-mail addresses come back as undeliverable for various reasons when I try to offer help. Here in my area there are winter auto flea markets and spring markets where all kinds of manuels show up. The Ford set consists of at least 7 volumes that cover all the car lines. That is how they done it in the 70s. Often at least 3 to 5 volumes of the set can be found at one time. The rest, as found. These are large wire drawings from various publishers etc. I will get to you via E-Mail.
