I agree with those that say to do what you want with it. If you build it to please everyone else, you'll evetually get tired of it and it won't be fun for you anymore. Do it the way you want, then when you drive it you'll be proud that it's yours.
why would someone laugh at a all stock car ?? it's 40 years old and still in decent condition just wait and see how long the newer cars last there's year 2000 cars around that are rust buckets
I don't think that there is much that I haven't changed on my cars, but that being said ... if I found an original car that was super-nice, I would have a very hard time modding it ... it would be a great addition to have and keep original ...as a second classic car along with my car that is so modified. Together, they would scratch the classic car itch in two different ways. Best of both worlds .... I predict that you may do this in the reverse order, if this one is really clean. Welcome to "the madness" ....(he's not rolling on the floor laughing ... just trying to get out of the straitjacket ...)
It's your car to do with as you please. It doesn't matter what other people think of it. As long as you're happy with it, that's all that does matter. Me personally, I like to see a nice clean Maverick or Comet kept stock. I kept my '77 Maverick stock and nobody has ever laughed at it. The only laughs my car ever generated was back in the early days when we decided to restore a Maverick. For some reason people thought the idea was funny. They are not laughing anymore. Don't ever worry about what other people think. Whatever you decide to do with it, if you're happy with it that's all that counts.
If it was a grabber,a sprint,a comet gt, a stallion or something rare i would be all for keeping it original, but its nothing super rare so do what you want with it. Wont hurt the value at all.
I say keep it original. Nobody laughs at this all original Maverick at the cruse-in's. If anyone needs to know where or what something should look like from the factory you would have a good example to show and tell.
At a minimum swap the BIG bumpers to Small bumpers on a 76 .... Here is my old 1974 model ... Big bumper when I got it ... and then later after small bumpers and other mods ...
