"The Daley Salvage Adventure" The overall experience was great. Unfortunatley, me, Susan and her daughters got there with only 45 minutes 'till closing (they close at noon on Saturdays). BTW, the girls loved the junkyard too. It was quite an experience for them. Personally, I've never been to a bigger junkyard in my entire life. Approximately 3800 vehicles on 40 acres. Imagine a 360 degree view of the pic below: This is just the Late Ford Truck area. 50's/60's/70's were in another part of the yard. This shot just gives an idea of how big the place is (notice the other cars on the hill behind these trucks). Regrettably, I report that the Maverick/Comet stock wasn't that great. The few that were there had been picked apart pretty well. In fact, the guy who drove us around the yard had a Maverick himself that he'd scavanged all the goods parts long before we got there. I noticed all the Granada's had their disc brakes and rear ends scavanged also. Because we were so rushed, I forgot to look at the condition of the only two Maverick hoods that were there! Scott, I know you've been there (and I believe rushed also). Ed and Duster, don't miss out on a great experience. Just don't go there thinking you're going to find a stack of Grabber hoods, small bumpers, and rear spoilers. I did have a good time though. In fact, I might go again next Saturday but will get there a lot earlier (I could spend all day there). They have cars from the 40's on up. 'Might make for a good photo shoot. Side Note: Ed, the traffic on I-10 West of Katy is horrible. I took 290 out to Katy-Hockley and hit I-10 just on the other side of the construction. In summary, I recommend making the trip if you're in the Houston area. Just don't expect to have your trucks loaded down with Maverick parts on the way back home. Oh yeah, insist on being taxied around in the "Tram". With the rugged terrain the yard is on, it's more fun than any ride at AstroWorld and a LOT cheaper! The best part might've been that the girls located the whereabouts of Herbie!!!
Looks like one of those yards that has a stagnant inventory and never crushes or gets much of anything new in. Not many good parts to be found in yards like that in my experience. I like to focus on the yards that are continuously crushing picked over cars and bringing in new ones.
Since I had to cancel this week, I will try it in the near future. I can't do it this weekend (5/20) but maybe the following weekend on the 27. It really is a cool place. But, like Rick said, most of the good parts are already gone. But, I don't need "the good parts". I need turn signal cams, a fender, etc...parts that are not quickly taken and are probably still there and in good condition. Rick, did you see the Mustang II? Notice what one part is missing?
So, what exactly is a third member? Is it part of the front suspension, or what? Actually, that was the first time I really recognized just how much of the front end has to come off in order to do a MII front end swap. Up until then, I thought it was something I could throw in the back seat of the mav. Then a week or so later, Rick posted pictures of the one he acquired, and I was shocked to see that it filled the bed of his full size truck, very tightly. I actually walked past the car twice, then asked the guy where his MII was, and he pointed, so I walked back and was just amazed that you have to buy and cut off 1/3 of the car for that swap.
You guys are losing me...the third member/pumpkin is the removable center section of the rear axle assembly. Nothing to do with front suspension.
