Heads look nice. Ought to be a good running engine. I am working on a 302 for my daughters Maverick right now or at least once in a while when I have time. Fitting the rings right now.
If you take the heads back to get finished go ahead and take him the pisons and rods so he can press the wrist pins in at the same time.
Heads look like 289 4 barrel heads.

What do you mean "press" the wrist pins in? Is that not something that I can do? :hmmm:

Sorry, I've only built Kart racing and lawn mower engines in the past. You can put the wrist pins in by hand on them.

77mav302, we have new cam bearings and everything. My dad has built several engines, we have all the tools. ;)

What are soft plugs? Freeze plugs?

If your just building it as a driver, i'd recommend buying a full rebuild kit (such as badger brand) that comes with pistons, rings, etc etc etc. Fairly cheap, and comes with stock type equipment. Just put in whatever cam you want and go.
Just my 2 cents. Also, hone it. easily done at home if you know what your doing. Which I'm sure your dad does if he's built motors.
    Goodluck and keep us informed.
And as far as the pins, they are pressed in. You can do them yourself, but I hate doing them. Putting them in isn't so bad, but hate taking them out.

Well looks like the motor is the least of our worries right now. The second C4 is dying. :(

    Here we go again:16suspect

Yep, it's getting to the point that it slips so bad in 2nd gear that it almost isn't driveable. Lookin' like that T5 swap is about to get put into overdrive. Gonna have to put the 302 on hold.

I won't put another automatic in there, enough is enough.

Where are you getting these C4's at? Junkyards, rebuilding yourself, or what, just curious.

This one that is currently in there came out of my '73 4 door and has 121,000 miles on it.

If I'm going to dump the money on new/rebuilt transmission, it will NOT be an automatic. The final plans for this car are to be a manual transmission, so I might as well get on it.

I would never trust myself to rebuild a transmission that I have to depend on daily.
