if its not the starter locking up the flywheel i cant really thing of anything else it could be thats NOT serious even if the pinion is engaged i should still be able to spin her one way right?
If the starter locked up(probable) that engine wont move. You could try whackin the starter with a hammer first to un-jam it.Otherwise pull it...Good luck
Pull the starter and check to make sure it is for your transmission - autos and manuals use different starters.
Not sure how you will know but just loosen it and whack it with a hammer. You shouldn't have to "remove" it.
i saw a sticker on my H/T starter the other day that stated... WARNING.."Do Not Strike With hammer"... i thought it was strange for them to make a sticker just for that warning... ...it must be a no..no.. ...:Handshake...
Just joining the thread, but im guessing bad starter also, had this happen once, and thought I had tore up a motor severely.
Those high torque motors use permanent magnet fields - hit it with a hammer and those puppies crack into pieces. I have replaced more than a few of those magnets in electric motors and I can tell you - don't hit the starter with a hammer. If it is locking the engine up then the starter drive is bound - not the starter. just loosen the bolts and see if you can move it - if not then remove the bolts and you can free it up.
