With a carb its not really necessary under 10psi. Because the actual fuel does a good job at cooling down the air. On EFI applications you dont get that effect since the injector are at the end of the intake.
Hey 75. I'm not sure that what he is telling you is quite correct. The type of pistons do not cause detonation but a forged piston can withstand more than a cast piston. I have heard of folks getting away with hypertectic pistons in a turbo application but I would never consider using cast pistons. He might be getting away with it on a conservative tune with meth injection and very little advance but they leave a ton of horsepower on the table by doing that. I'm not saying it cannot be done but the et's you are talking about are pretty agressive and essentially it has a limited lifespan (read: ticking time bomb).
Hey Mo, there is no strict rule that says you have to use an intercooler. You can limit boost, use meth injection, pull back timing, lots of options. I am going to run E85 and use an air to water intercooler myself. But this is primarially a drag car.
I worded it wrong. He said that forged withstand detonation more. But Im pretty sure the vitara pistons are hyper but technically those are still cast. Thanks for the info though. And the cars arent running the meth kits most are running E85 with air to air coolers. The amazing thing is that these guys can run those numbers on stock blocks and on the stock head.
Those motors are overbuilt from the factory so it doesn't surprise me. I have a ton of respect for the guys that can run that fast on four cylinders with front wheel drive. Oh and the E85 is really helping them out with the detonation.
For sure! 115 octane. And these things remind me of little mod motors. They even have a girdle from the factory! I wish windsors had em. The cheapest i can find is $170.
We have a Toyota motor in our class 10 off road car and they are really neat. The technology is way out there. But then even the new 5.0 in the Mustang is really advanced compared to our old 302's, 5.0's and even the newer 4.6. Technology marches on! Sometimes I think that Detroit gets a bad rap, all because of the late 70's cars. They've been doing nothing but getting better since the early 80's in my opinion.
