People never cease to amaze me. You hear so many stories about cops being pricks and here is a nice story about a cop just being a normal decent car-guy and some of you want to sue him or make a complaint that he misused his authority. Somebody made a comment about this being the world we live in... yeah, this world is screwed up because folks have attitudes like the above posts and want to sue everybody for everything. Unbelievable.

That's a good story, if a cop wants to pull me over to ask about my car I figure he's earned the privelege. I've never had one light me but I've had them follow me to where I was going then ask about the car.
I live in a relatively small town too and I know everyone at city hall because I keep their building cool in the summer and warm in the winter, when it's 95 degrees outside I'm a popular guy...:p

Sam I gotta agree with you. Whats up with dissin a hot rod cop:huh: I have been pulled over and asked about my car. Never bothered me. Everybody misuses thier time or power in one way shape or form. Nobody has an empty closet..... except me I have never done anything wrong:162: yea right:evilsmile

I also have to disagree that anybody is a law-abiding citizen. Everybody has broken a law at one time or another. Go 1mph over the speed limit and you are a law breaker. As far as being a tax paying citizen, aint we all :90:

I think we were kidding about the lawsuit thing guys!

However he is correct. If the Maverick driver had just
gone postal on a couple of people at his office and
shoots at the cop who didn't call in the stop, the
cop would have a nasty note in his file down at his
    local IAD.

I'm sorry. I don't think it is cool when a cop puts his lights on and gives me a heart attack and embarsses me just to talk about my car when I've done nothing wrong!

What gives him the right to waste my time?

If he wants to ask questions about my car then follow me to where I'm going and pull over (without lights or sirens) when I get out and walk over then ask.

    /end rant :tsk:

As many tickets as I've had, they can pull me over just to talk anytime. No big deal in my opinion.

I can see it from the other side also. My wife is a Paramedic Crew Chief here in Charlotte/Mecklenburg.
They were going down the road one day, got a call and turned on lights and sirens. They went through a stop light running traffic then the call got cancelled. The killed the lights and noise makers and went on up the road. They then pulled into the post office to park. They don't have assigned posts here anymore and stay in the truck all day. That menas they have to stop and sit somewhere once in a while.
A concerned law abiding tax payer filed a report with her supervisor and the local paper causing her all kinds of grief. She had to go back into the computor data base plus the GPS system to proove her case.
Someone thought she used her lights just to get through a light.
If a cop pulled me over to chat I would probably be fine with it at the time but it would get to aggrivating me later. I would in no way cause him any grief over it though. Their jobs are hard enough and dangerous enough as it is.
It's about like my Paramedic wife. I could'nt or would'nt do her job but I'm glad there are people out there that are willing to
    Clint

Exactly. Some people need to :chillpill. I've never stopped anyone just to look at their cars, but there have been plenty of times I would've liked to. My luck would be that I would stop someone with that attitude!

Just seems to me that this is the kind of policeman that will come to local car shows, talk to the folks there, and help out if needed. We need more of these guys, especially when things go wrong, and they are few and far between.

You have exactly, correctly, stated the problem for me. There are a billion laws and if the cops decide they want to screw with you, they do. And if it's too inconvenient to actually take the time to figure out which 100 laws you are breaking, well, they just make something up. (yes they really do). I grew up when cops were actually interested in helping people. Now it's how many people can we arrest and run our statistics up to keep increasing our funding/salaries/departments. It's all about throw them in jail or take their money or both. Every time you get pulled over for anything you are assumed guilty until proven innocent. Run out of gas, they are going to run your license to see if there's some way they can screw with you, anyone they come in contact with they are trained to assume is a criminal, and they treat you accordingly. I have no respect for cops anymore. Seen too much gestapo bs. But then I live in the Occupied Territories. Used to be the American southwest, now we're not part of America anymore, overrun with the US NO Border Patrol(they are everywhere but actually on the border), DEA, sheriffs, city cops, state cops, immmigration, customs, highway patrol, fbi, army, and who knows what else. US Constitution? What's that? We do whatever the hell we want and screw you "civilians". I have to go through a permanent roadblock to get to Tucson. Third world crap. And the bottom line for me is: anything they actually catch at that stop 30 miles from the border is just proof of what a lousy job they are actually doing at the border. Whoever said they were fed up with govt. waste, the Border Patrol is the biggest welfare program going. And if any of you actually believe the bs they spread through the media about how they are adding "agents" and closing down the illegal crossing, it's all bs, there is NO southern US border, drugs and people still flowing at will. The US govt. absolutely refuses to shut down one of the biggest sectors of Mexico's economy; illegal workers crossing into the US. I'll give you an example: Nogales sector has something like 600 agents assigned, they are responsible for 30 miles of border(20 agents per mile!!!!). If they put them all on the border they would be close enough to each other to throw rocks at each other, 3 shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, their section of border would be closed. They don't do it. Instead, they ignore the border, let anyone cross that wants to and then play hide and seek all over southern AZ, screwing with US citizens in the process. While doing the law enforcement mantra, "We need more people, we need more people". Disgusting. How's that for a rant?

What to say to the cop?

I learned this in a psychology class many many years ago by the instructor. When you get pulled over the first thing you say is, "I want to thank you for this warning officer." And that's all there is to it. I used that line twice in past years and in both cases the Officer said, "Let me see your liscense and registration." I received a ticket in one of the cases and I did get a warning in the other. I guess that means you at least got a 50/50 shot.
