I had a comment similar this weekend at a car show. The guy asked how hard it was to put a 302 in my 73 Comet. I said it was easy, it came that way from the factory. It's the original engine & trans. He thought they all came with 6 bangers too. He said I only thought Comet GT's & Maverick Grabbers came with V-8's. I said no way, most of them were 6 bangers. The V-8 was an option that most people didn't get. He said, I learned something new today. I said, aren't car shows cool? You can always learn something new & exciting about cars. And get ideas on things to do to your own car. Just don't let the Jackass know it all's, get to you. Just let it go......

    I've always thought early 70's Camaro's had a similar profile to a 2-door Maverick ..

The first time I ever met John Ford, we met for breakfast to do alittle BS'n and parts trading, when he first pulled up in his garge, we were standing there by my car when this guy walks up and proceeds to tell us about his BOSS 302 Maverick that he had:slap: and how fast that car was....blah blah blah.;)

John and I let him tell us his story, and when he walked off got a pretty good kick out of it..:D

Let's look at the facts, shall we. First, has anyone seem the new GTO? Yes, the GTO. Do these guys at Pontiac or GM have a clue? All these cars look alike. I can appreciate a good designed car but Chevy enginners really don't have clue, they just don't get. I remember the classic GTO and I would be embarrassed to group up with these guys. If GM had half the desire and guts, they would get a clue and bring out there best to compete with our ford cars. I'm not surprised to not see many camaros, trans ams, z-28's, and firebirds on the roads. How many are actually out there? These cars are nice looking but were not selling or as popular as our mavericks and mustangs. These cars have a life cycle, our cars are forever. Life is short, do what makes you happy and forget the rest. Yes, if it were easy to put together a 302 or 289, everyone would be doing it. Chevy 350's is the easy way out....if you want a challange, put together a 302.

Well, I had the pleasure of winning a Best of Show award at a local Advance Auto Parts show here a few months ago. There were only about 25 cars in the show but I did have some pretty stiff competition. There was a mixture of street rods, Camaros, Corvettes, and Mustangs. I thought I had the best car and obviously the spectators did to because it was a peoples choice award. :bananaman

There was a time when I thought Mavericks only had 6's in them. My Uncle owned a Maverick and I never paid all that much attention to it. He got it when his friend's mother passed away. She had rarely driven it. The car had a plate on the front that said "Swingin' Grandma" and it had big whitewall tires & dog dish hubcaps. This was in Florida, so the paint was faded to chalk and the white vinyl top was all dried up & cracked. The car was really ugly.

I had to use the Maverick one day to make a parts run for my Chevy Vega. Imagine my surprise when I took off with it!! The first thing I did when I stopped was pop the hood and drop my jaw when I saw the 302. I had to have it after that first ride! Needless to say, the tires had a tad less rubber on them when I returned it to my uncle.

He was going to use the 302 from the Maverick in a van he had bought and I begged him not to do it!! He didn't. He gave the car to me when I moved back to Maine from Florida. That was over 18 years ago. I still own the car and still love the way it makes me feel when I drive it. The car has never given me any trouble. The Vega, on the other hand, is nothing but a memory.

Well here's a story for ya all.
This past weekend I was at a buddy's house (who also owns a '73 Maverick) and there was this young punk kid there talking all sorts of B.S. He said that "back home" (where ever that is) he has a '67 Mustang that has a Chevy 454 in it. He said that the car has 700 horsepower and that it weighs 5600 pounds from all of the reinforcment steel he added to it. He said it has a 6-speed tranny and that he did 176 in 4th gear. Oh yeah....and he said he's put $96,000 dollars into it. Yeah right, must be why he's in the military, cuz he's so rich. I just couldn't believe the B.S. and the fact that he was actually expecting me and my friend to believe it. Kids these days! Ya buy 'em books & send 'em to school...

I think it was Albert Einstein who said, " The only thing infinite in this world is space and human stupidity"

And maybe it was Sam Kinnison who said, "There are no stupid questions, just stupid people"

I think the best thing to do is agree with them, let them believe everything they tell you so that when they go on to the next person that will listen they make a fool of themselves. Now if they ask and want to know I would tell them what I do know(which may not be much) but I would shoot them straight.
