My uncle took the PS/AC lower pulley and ground off the first (bigger) belt slot.
It looks like a smaller 2 slot pulley now.
Then he took a PS car WP pulley with 2 slots, and now runs 2 identical belts over the WP, crank, and Alt.
    That is another thought.
I don't know how hard double row WP pulleys are to find. Or if you had one handy.
Seems to me you could also grind all but one slot off the AC style pulley.

    Just some ideas.
Can you tell from my ideas that I am usually on a strict budget??? :D

I found a "single belt" water pump pulley. I will take mine in tomorrow and compare it. There is a line drawn on my pulley where the belt needs to ride, so I can match it up and verify it is close.

Luckily, this is all at John's Mustangs...a fairly reputable Mustang parts dealer that just HAPPENS to be located in SW Houston, about 45 minutes north of me.

This is the "right" way to do it. I know that because it will cost me $50

Do anyone remember the part number for the water pump pulley?

The number on my current pulley that goes to the AC and PS is stamped D1AE-8509-AA.

The one I am getting is listed in John's Mustangs as C5AZ-8509-BR.

I don't know what the numbers mean, but all of them have -8509- in them. I am not sure if these are Ford brand, or what. I will pick one up this morning and let you know.

ended up with C5AZ-8509-BR from John's Mustangs in Houston. It appears to be lined up and I will buy a new belt today and give it a try. I am pretty sure it is the right one.

Still wouldn't mind going over to one of those serpentine systems...

Look at all that empty space on the driver side...think I could fit a centrifugal blower in there? :evilsmile Need a new radiator hose that has a more straight shot, now that it doesn't have to wind around the PS fan belt.

Boy we think alike. Yea I think so. I'm really leaning toward a ProCharger myself on the pass side with a braket that will lower the alt some. Braket has tobe fab though maybe alone with the bracket to hold the blower in place.

Also notice that there is a tin pan under the car that catches the dripping power steering fluid, and the buildup of fluid on everything behind the power steering pump??? Rest of the bay is fairly dry, maybe not clean, but dry. Then that area around the oil filter and lower pan gasket (and everything under the car all the way back on that side) is soaked with steering fluid.

It will be nice to not have that anymore.

Looks great. What is the diameter of that new pulley? It looks like you have the same standard 3-groove a/c p/s crank pully as I do. (And I see the car used to have a/c & p/s) I used a real small pulley on the water pump for a day or two that lined up with the middle groove on the crank pulley, but it made my flex fan sound like a jet engine.

It looks to be pretty close to the stock size...about 5-1/2" outer diameter. I admit, I had it installed and running, then looked from the side and it didn't quite line up, maybe 1/8-3/16" off. I have had belts throw off due to similar errors. So I added a thick washer to the inside between the inner pulley face and the mounting flange on the water pump (one for each mounting bolt). It looks close enough for government work now, within a 1/16" or so.
