Think this part was missed. If you can get someone to cook out carb or buy the nasty cleaner, napa use to have gallon ($20-30) not sure if epa outlawed it or not. Clean carb REAL well, blow out all holes both ways, new gaskets an try again. Watch air bleeds, not sure which carb you have but they are paired different. May want to see if anyone close is good on rebuilds an try them. Good Luck

Seems like the problem is following the carb for sure.
markso125 I was thinking just the opposite way and waiting on the Edelbrock people to show up and you did. lol
I agree a lot of carb problems end up being ignition related but with it following the carb it seems to be the carb is the problem.
Didn't he say something around the 1st or 2nd post about there being rust in the bowl? If that is the case then a little speck of rust could be in the metering block in the front or stuck in one of the jets.
I had a problem like this once years ago and about pulled what little hair I had out tracing it down. Turned out it was something that looked like an insect's leg stuck in one of the jets. It was in there in such a way I guess that it would block the flow and then move out of the way. Sounds silly I know but once I got it out the carb ran great for years. I am still using that 1850 VS 600cfm Holley on the 460 in my F100. Been worked on a time or two since then though

Trust me it is allot worse the other way around..... like the link I posted which apparently some people cant even click on.......hmm maybe they have a guilty consience :rofl2:...is a good example, out of the first 8 posts of a guy looking for baffles for his carb and 4 of them telling him to get a holley.

Now if you want you can do a search and tell me how many posts there are where Edelbrock people are doing this to the Holley people, and Holley people are doing it to the Edelbrock people and if you are correct and there are more Edelbrock people that do it, I will gladly eat your hat.:thumbs2:

Of course that brings me to another point not once did I say anyone should buy an Edelbrock in my post, or say that Edelbrock was any better then Holley, It was merely an observence of mine that the reaction of people are that way.

;) Most of us don't need to reinforce our arguments with more useless drivel from other threads:idea: I took this post to imply that JHodges was looking for parts. Maybe you should try better language to get your point across as well as not dragging in info from past threads.

I'd really rather just try and help the poster. I like Holleys and get tired of all the crap about Edelbrocks versus Holley anyway. I honestly shouldn't have said what little I did about it to you and I apologize to the poster about that.
It is worse than the ford versus chevy thing. Wonder why that is? You don't hear us arguing about what tire is better? There is a littlebit about mufflers though. lol
Is there any update about the Holley carb trouble? Have you done anything else to it that can lead us towards a helpful suggestion?

One thing the Q-Jet had going for it, that and the old Carter Thermoquad was their sound when used with a quiet exhaust and open air cleaner. Nothing like em when romped on downtown with the echoes between the buildings (back in the mid 70's) This was also the primary reason I went with a 3x2 setup. They've got a sound all to themselves......................STEREO !!!!!!!!

Yeah, I can remember back in the 70's, 80's when everybody driving their mamas car (Q-jet) would flip over the top of the air cleaner just so they could hear that sound. I think the cops did that too cause you could certainly hear them when they gunned it.

Exactly ! I got chased by a game warden in the woods in deep east texas one night. I out smarted him and can still remember the sound of that Thermoquad bellowing as he went barreling down the wrong road. My next door neighbor's mom had a 73 4 dr Impala with a high compression 350, that thing always sounded awesome when he'd romp on the pedal downtown (air cleaner lid flipped) and the Q-jet would bog it down for a second or two before the engine recovered enough to use the extra air.:Handshake
