I looked for a long time for a set of those 86 heads when I was building a engine with twisted wedge heads. The TW heads have alot of free drop and that's why you can get away with no valve reliefs with mild cams. I wanted those pistons to increase my compression ratio. And I beleive they may actually be forged but I wouldn't swear to it. Twisted wedge heads do not require a special header.

False alarm...the shortblock is fine, I found a couple chunks of aluminum that look like the piece between the rings...but actually it fell in from the timing cover when I broke some pieces off....

So I might be in okay shape :)

Yes, they will fit. Mill them .020" to bring the compression up just a bit and you're set.

Here is a long awaited update, I will post a thread when I get rolling on it.

Rebuilt a used 302 block I picked up, it was a 86 with good everything but flat top pistons.

New bearings all around, some sealed power cast high compression pistons with valve reliefs (finally a useable block eh), new cam bearings and all the jazz.

Picked up a set of SVO X aluminum heads for 575$, had the valves lapped for 60$ and heads decked for 40$....

Got a set of proform roller tip rockers for 100$ NIB but someone lost one of the little mounts that go underneath.

    SO.

Still need a cam, intake, and decent carb, then ignition components, and etc.

But it looks like I have a solid longblock finally.

    Should be a runner!
