Some factory distributors have a cap on the back (fitting side) of the vacuum canister. You can change the spring or shim it to tune it to a given vacuum and limit it with a 5/16 inch tube (brake or fuel line) cut to length. Ohers have a screw in the hose fitting that you can adjust the amount of vacuum needed to start the vacuum advance. I built my own to suit my needs but any vacuum advance is better than none. Under light throttle the vacuum advance allows more advance than the engine can stand under full load. When you step on the throttle the vacuum advance is lost so your engine can use the mechanical advance only. That way your engine doesn't ping and knock from too much advance when accelerating but has more advance when cruising for better mileage.
Once again all you guys are wrong. Shamefull. Its obviously the advanced aerodynamics of our cars that get better mileage at high speed.
This might sound dumb but was there gas left over from the first week at 50?? That maybe you forgot to account for when putting the second $20 in the tank.
nope... i wate until it his exactly 1/4th a tank and fill up when i go 70... i last exactly 5 days that friday i filled up and then ran the car on mon-thursday so thats 5 days when going 50 i last 4
I'd like to see a wind tunnel test on our cars. I'd almost bet money that they are more aerodynamic gong backwards then forwards.
jamie may be onto something, much like the valkyrie prototype to the b-1 bomber. so the faster we go the more aerodynamic propulsion we get at the back panel pushing forward. and i thought the turbulence there was a bad thing.....
Ye just like a Falcon. The bird not the car. Now we can tell the Mustang guys that our cars provide a low pressure zone that makes us faster. :bananaman
lol I never got a ticket in the Maverick or Comet, but I did in a Honda Accord... A HONDA of all things! ugh
I have gotten tickets in just about everything that I ever owned, all except my freaking Galaxy fastback that I used to drive 100+ mph all the time on the way home from town. As soon as I started buying more family oriented cars (got married at 18) I started getting tickets. Never got a ticket in my El Camino that I had in H.S. either .
Oh YEAH?.... I think this thread was initially about mileage... so I feel compelled to just a *little* bit more... When I drive to work at 6:00am it is UPHILL all the way to UBC and I get great mileage. BUT when I drive home - downhill, with a tailwind coming in from the coast pushing my super-aerodynamic stock-height Comet the mileage is lousy; even though I draft tandem city buses in the straightaways then pull out to smoke em at intersections. Couldn't figure out why - then I realized it was because I drive home with the driver window open so I can recieve a myriad of complements from motorists and pedestrians at every intersection. The frequent stops, car-talk at intersections, and the enormous wafts of hot air that comes from my mouth and inflated ego is released into the atmosphere, lowering the heat-energy coefficient of driver-vehicle combination and it takes way longer to get home that the other days when I drive my girlfriends' Honda and just ignore everybody.
