So your guys are saying a standard roller cam will fit in a non-roller block? I thought the cam bearing journals were different sizes ...
Yes just make sure to match lifter and cams meaning Hyd Roller With Hyd Roller Mech roller w/ mech roller If this is a mostly street car I recommend the Hyd Roller
With the conversion kit to a roller cam for a non-roller block wouldn't he get to keep his non-roller weighted balancer and flywheel/flexplate? Although chances are you would get these on a roller motor, that could be a $$ offset to consider depending on your selection of roller blocks. HP/torque wise I don't believe there is any more durability in the '85 and up roller blocks. Seth
Somebody correct me if I am wrong here but I believe the balance issue was an engineering change that had nothing to do with roller blocks. I think this took place in the early 80's You can switch balancer/flywheel(flexplate) to any crank as long as you match them 28oz/50 oz
Roller blocks are not the strongest 302 blocks made thats for sure, but I love the 1 piece rear main and the fact that no mods have to be done to put a roller cam in them.
Wow I have made like 5 posts on the same thread in under 10min I take it you are having the machine shop do an internal balance then. I recall you saying this was on a budget
Im not sure thats correct. I think the amount of external balance is dependant on the crank construction and harmonics, but I could also be wrong
