I don't know if I would mount it in the engine bay ... sometimes when there is an engine fire, you pop open the hood, oxygen hits the fire and it jumps straight out at you. Might not be able to get to it. I now feel OK with keeping mine in the trunk after hearing you had to search.... the difference being that mine has always been in the trunk pocket behind the left wheelwell. I am pretty obsessive about giving everything important a specified place. Usually cuts down on the searching ... I say "usually" because I just reorganized my storage for all the little parts that need to go back in my car now. I used to know exactly where they were ... now that they are "more organized", I have spent far too much time cussing and wondering where I moved them to, and this is all in under 10 square feet of floor space. Amazing ...
Yeah if I'd had the Holley to begin with I might not have gone with that distributor. They are too close. There was plenty of clearance with the Edelbrock carb I had before... I'll be exploring my options. I like the carb too much to get rid of that, so I may be replacing the distributor with something else. Really though, the way that carb was spraying, I'm pretty sure it would have hit any distributor I could have used.
I always keep mine in the same spot too, same place as you actually, it's just that I've never had to use it, so at the time I didn't remember exactly where it was.
I keep mine behind my passenger seat on the floor. If I wind up doing a seat delete it will get mounted to the floor where the seat would be. What happened to your shock tower brace? Looks like its bent, thats not from the fire is it?
If you mean the one on the driver's side, it's supposed to look like that. It's a factory brace for clearing the power brake booster. (Apologies if you already knew that.) It does look kinda wavy in the pics now that I look at it, but I think that's an optical trick from the fire extinguisher dust. I'll look at it again tonight though when I start the cleanup. it's hard to imagine the fire behing hot enough to do that and not hurt the hood, but you've got me wondering... Yeah, perhaps I will consider that... Good suggestion.
