I just rewired the tail lights because there was a dead spot in the wheel well somewhere, and the turn signals never worked before anyways, i would always just run them on and off to signal. I replaced a flasher i thought that was the problem but i will try and find the other one and replace it.

    What was the problem?

I'm restoring a 70 Merc Marauder & I am having similiar problem as you did. Car starts & runs fine, 4 way flashers work, signals light up but don't flash, reverse lights won't light, although they did a couple times when car wasn't running. Wipers won't work, fuel gauge doesn't move & blower motor doesn't work. These componets work sometimes, but not lately. Start the car Alt light turns off, or glows dimly move car to reverse or turn on wipers or move signal lever Alt will glow very bright. Any thoughts?

maurader, I would say your alternator is toast. I replaced the voltage regulator in our Mav last weekend, because it seemed like a good idea. I noticed a diffrence in the way everything works (better).

    Turn Signal Lites

Take A Long Wire Hook Connect It To The +side Of The Battery
And Hook Your Test Lite To The Other End Of The Wire Probe The Grounds And See If It Lights If The Bulb Burns Bright The Ground Is Ok

Yes, there are 2 flashers. One for turn signals & one for the 4way flasher. Find the other flasher & I think you will have fixed the problem....Otherwise, do what Mavaholic said....

Thanks for the idea on the grounds ronr11. Heading to the garage now. Alt better not be toast as I had it beefed up & rebuilt, and installed a new volt regulator. This car does have two flashers & I replaced the turn signal one , same old problem. Thanks for all the advice & keep it coming.

Update: Grounds are lighting up test light like a Christmas tree. So they all check out. I test lighted all the sockets & found that the headlight signal was crossing over into signal wiring, pulled the bulbs & found the Kulprits to be the little 161 marker light bulbs. Replaced all them and they still want to bleed over (Funny that they have those marker lights flash with the signals on this model). I left those bulbs right out and tried the signals - nothing. Replaced the signal flasher & the signals worked. Alt light went off, tried the wipers they worked - and then the signal flasher blow. I have one of the new clear ones & can see metal touching metal in it. Do you think this was just a faulty new flasher or did something else over load the system.
