Wait... "any" Dura Spark? I have a shell of a '76 Mav that I got from Terry that had a 250, and still has the harness and everything, just not the dist. or coil (no engine). The box just says Dura Spark on it, can I use this harness with a Dura Spark II box? and just get a new Distributor and stuff?

Whats the diffrence between Dura Spark and Dura Spark II? :hmmm:

Well I went ahead and pulled the harness and box off the '76 yesterday. Now just gotta get a Distributor. (y)

Dan, where did you pull power from? And did you just leave the resistor wire as is to the coil and connect the green wire in place of the old points wire?

Jamie ... check my link above ... I used the Throttle Solenoid connector. Worked perfect and even though the plugs are different shapes I plugged them together and they stayed. I used the original wires on the coil ....

If you want to stop by one day I can show you my setup ...

    For future reference:
A Duraspark distributor is just a flying magnet trigger and the Duraspark box is just a captive discharge unit.
You can use the Duraspark distributor to trigger an aftermarket box, and do away with the stock box. MSD 6 (for example) will operate a Duraspark. No need for factory harness or box.
Magnets are the way to go... no modules, lights, or points to burn out.

    On the Pertronix:
I have a piece of equipment with a V4 air cooled engine, about 10 years old. It came with points, but I am the 2nd owner. I went to adjust the points and there was a Pertronix in there! Been there at least 5 years. Runs like a top and no adjustments needed.

Yea, a little late. This is a pretty old post to bring back up. :) I've been running the Duraspark ignition with a TFI coil for over 5,000 miles now and I am completely happy with it. Cost about half of what the Pertronix costs.

The Duraspark ignition gives a much hotter spark then the Pertronix. I've heard and read enough about the Pertronix that I'm not going to mess with it.

I'll put a MSD box in someday but right now the Duraspark II's module works just fine.
