well i have two of the little peices that you'd need but i'm not sure exactly how it works for the Comets.
Im not having trouble with brackets, its the bumper its self. But im ganna give it a shot tomorrow and play with it, thanks guys! By the way, do you happen to know where i can get that peice that sits below the bumper?
The front filler panel that you have will work fine. If you look at it you will notice there is a pattern line, take and measure about 1 1/2" from that line so so you will be removing the excess rubber . This will be just what you want it will allow the filler panel to go underneath your smaller bumper thus giving you a nice job at a cost of your time. It should take you about 15 minutes and the bumer will slide right into place!!
if you have 73 bumper brackets, they stick the rear bumper out further than the earler ones. the pice below the bumper is called a gravel pan or rear valance.
alright awesome thanks for the advice guys hopfully itll work, is there a way i can change the brackets i have? Will do with the rear valence
If your bumper hangs over on the sides, I still say the same as some of the others mentioned...Mustang bumper. I had a 70 Mustang bumper sitting beside a Maverick bumper before and both looked incredibly alike other than the Mustang bumper was a couple inches wider which would make it about an inch wide on each side.
You took bumpers off a Maverick to put on a Comet?... methinks the hood, grill, bumpers and possibly the bracket in center in front of the rad are all different. Comets project outwards by a few inches I think. Suppose you could sell the bumpers or convert the whole front end? Whisky
If you are having problems mounting the rear bumper to a 74 ... do you also have the 70-73 rear quarter extensions and the little filler pieces that go under them and into the top of the bumper ends? A thin rear bumper is not going to work with later fender extensions. Look a Mattricks picture ... do your extensions curve like that? ... or are they almost straight up and down (later ones).
