Man that is great news! This guy is doing you well. And did I see that you bought some bucket seats as well?
Yeah, I am really happy with the progress! And yes, I did buy some bucket seats with tracks...but that is a project for another day...running out of money on this paint job!
Yeah I believe it! The days of the Earl Sheib $129.99 paint job are long gone. You can't even buy the paint for less than $500 the last time I looked. I don't know how anyone can do it any more.
So I decided that using the stick on side stripes would be the best way to go in order to really have that period correct look. The 71 stripes are pretty unique and they also have the "Grabber" logo built into the stripe in kind of a script font of sorts. Problem is my paint guy doesn't install stripes. Anyone have experience in this area? I'm not sure if I trust myself to do it...don't want to screw it up! Either that or I may have to bite the bullet and pay someplace to install them...just another expense I don't really need, but oh well...want it done right.
A lot of it has to do with environmental concerns. And in fairness the paints are safer today with better quality.
They have gone mostly away from solvent based paints (because of VOC's) and the popular paints are all going water based. This makes them difficult to work with but keeps the environmentalists at bay. I know it is the law in California, and when I was looking at purchasing a restoration business here in town back about 7 or 8 years ago it was scheduled to happen here as well. I don't know if it ever passed as I didn't end up getting into that business, but it was a huge concern at the time.
Hey Guys, Haven't been on much. But, I did drop my orange 70 off at a shop last week for some body work and paint. He said 2 weeks. I drove by 2 days later and the bumpers were off the headlight rings and rear lights were out. Just from what I could see driving by. People were working on it. Hopefully it will turn out okay. Now I need to change out the carpet and get some different bucket seats for it.
Hey Don! It is great to hear from you! I was over at Ryans this weekend and we were both saying that we need to all get together again. It's been way too long since we've all broke some bread. With two of the local Mavericks in paint jail and the heat not giving us any signs of letting up in the near future we were talking about 4 to 6 weeks from now. Since you are busier than the rest of us, what does your schedule look like?
I'm all for getting together once the heat lets up. I just posted some updated pics of my car in paint jail on my original post. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=99686
If I would have known you were getting your car painted I would have let you borrowed some steel wheels so you wouldn't run the risk of getting over spray onto your wheels
I'm pretty busy, but if you throw a couple of dates out there, I'll see if I can pick one. Would be nice after it cools off a bit. Last weekend in September is the Run To The Pines car show in Pinetop. Supposed to be limited to the first 550 cars to preregister. I'm #572. LOL
