I found a guy by referral that is doing it. He works out of his house but he has a separate garage with a makeshift paint booth where he does all his work. I saw two of the vehicles he has done and they looked awesome. As far as the side stripes that is still up in the air. I really want him to paint them on and he is fine with doing it but I'm struggling as to how to give him accurate specs on the stripes. The stripes that are on the car now are not period correct and no one makes a stencil for them. I know where I can get the proper stencil for the hood for $50.
Ugh...my car has been previously repaired badly and there is a lot more rust. Anyone have one of these that is not eaten up with rust? Mine is trashed and unfixable. Not sure what it's called but its above the front valence by the front bumper.
Oh, and the front lip of my grabber hood is not good. I really like the look of the factory steel hood so I want to try to save it. My body guy says if I could find a decent donor hood he could graft on the front piece to my hood. Otherwise it is a lot of metal work to try to repair it but the underside would never look the same as factory. So...anyone out there have a decent donor hood??
Gene I got a decent flat hood at my house. The lip looks nice. Hate to see it just cut up but to save a grabber hood I guess it is justified. I would probably need $100 for it because if I ever need one again it will be hard to find.
Well I've reached that dangerous tipping point with the car again. I haven't touched it in weeks and I am bored with looking at it. It is times like this that I usually start thinking about selling them off. SOMEONE TALK ME OFF THE LEDGE!!!
DON'T JUMP!! You have a lot of blood, sweat and tears...not to mention money in that fine car! I'm anxious to do more Maverick meets with everyone as soon as I get my car painted...that's the fun of it all after all. And it makes your day when someone tells you...NICE CAR MAN!
Yeah not driving it, that's part of the problem. It hasn't been at a point in the last, oh...six months now?...when I could just jump in it and drive it somewhere. It lost the fun factor and is just a garage queen again. At least for a while I was making some headway with new parts and that was fun. But now it doesn't even want to start and I am frustrated trying to figure out what button I pushed on the computer that shut the whole thing down. On another note, I did fix my truck last night. It decided that it enjoyed playing the game of locking and unlocking the torque converter at random intervals making my diesel engine sound like a machine gun going off. I took it into Performance Transmission here in El Mirage. Chris took great care of me scanning the computer and telling me how I could fix the problem myself. It turns out that it was bad ground connections on both batteries. Go figure! But he gave me the advice and did the scan for nothing. What a great place! I found out about them when they put the shift kit in my son's Firebird. Great prices and a small guy shop. When I was in there yesterday they had a sprint car and a '65 Ranchero on the lifts. I can't say enough about them!
Yeah...not driving it and just letting it sit...that's the problem. I'm sure Ryan can relate too. I make it a point to drive mine at least once a week...typically early on a Saturday or Sunday morning. If it just sits then you get complacent and wonder why you even have it. Get it up and running again and just take it for a cruise around the neighborhood on the weekends like I do. Maybe find local cruise-in's in your neighborhood.
Grabber Hood Saved!! My paint and body guy successfully grafted the front of Ryan's donor hood onto my grabber hood! And it's way solid! After a skim coat of filler, sanded and painted you will never be able to tell.
