I think the reason the fuse was blowing was that the radio light wire was hooked up as the ground to the aftermarket radio. I can't tell you how many times I have found radio's wired up that way....even by the in-store installation pros. Any fuse will do the trick, as long as it is on a circuit that switches off with the ignition.
You'll want to tap into the battery side of the fuse and, as mentioned above, have an inline fuse for the radio. The current for the radio won't be going thru the fuse you tap into. I would find a power source that's hot when the key in in the ACC position so you can run the radio without powering the ignition.
Okay I went to where I put into the harness the pos and ground. Took out the ground and grounded it to something on the interior and all works fine. Not sure but I think I went with the original harness feed negative and power. Then when you mentioned the blue with red stripe I got to thinkin that it fed into the same harness. So I'm goin to try that for awhile. What a deal. Thanks for getting a guy to think clearly.
Until you leave the radio "ON" all night and run the battery dead. Better to have it swtich off with the ignition IMO.
Unless you turn it down to answer the phone...and you forgot you did that as you get out of the car. Just a safety measure to have everything "off" in the car when the ignition is turned off. Well...safety for the battery's sake.
